JanLPN: This was, in turns, hilarious & bittersweet. So many memorable characters with 66 year old retired housewife & grandmother deciding she wasn’t happy being put upon by her family, ignored by her husband. Her adventures were fabulously fun, eye-opening, heartwarming, & helped her also finally deal withe the anniversary of her late 12 year old son’s death, when he was killed by a drunk driver. The anniversary acted as a catalyst, spurring her on to revisit memories & make new ones. Her return home was a twist on an usual stereotype, but oh what a shocker, providing explanation for so much of the status of her marriage!
Absolutely brilliant, & I want to know MORE.

Sixty six year old Connie McColl loves her children and grandchildren but is tired of being taken for granted. Tired of her husband spending every waking hour at the golf club. Tired of ferrying him to and fro at all hours. The final straw came when no-one, except her dear friend, remembered the anniversary of their son Ben’s death. It should have been an unforgettable date for them all and no-one had even mentioned it.

Connie pondered and deliberated then made up her mind. The next day she packed a bag and set off in Kermit, her little green car, leaving a note for her husband and emails for her children. She felt she had to rediscover the Connie she used to be, the one who wasn’t chief cook and bottle washer, wife, mother, babysitter, taxi service and solver of problems, before it was too late.

This was such a delightful read. I liked Connie from the start and more so as the story went on. She’s a very sympathetic, relatable character and it was a joy to share her adventures.
