JanLPN: This was, in turns, hilarious & bittersweet. So many memorable characters with 66 year old retired housewife & grandmother deciding she wasn’t happy being put upon by her family, ignored by her husband. Her adventures were fabulously fun, eye-opening, heartwarming, & helped her also finally deal withe the anniversary of her late 12 year old son’s death, when he was killed by a drunk driver. The anniversary acted as a catalyst, spurring her on to revisit memories & make new ones. Her return home was a twist on an usual stereotype, but oh what a shocker, providing explanation for so much of the status of her marriage!
Absolutely brilliant, & I want to know MORE.

Princess: Well constructed and written. A joirney of discovery for the wife in the story, with an unexpected ending.

Jena Henry Booklover: Was she bored? Was she being silly? Was she tired of being dutiful? Perhaps all three-so Connie crawls out of her domestic rut and hops in her little green car. She leaves her safe and staid Sussex life and head towards freedom and the “thrill of being naughty.”

Goodbye to boring golfer husband Roger, three fine adult children and an uninspiring retirement bungalow. Connie leaves a note for Roger by the kettle, emails her kids and heads off on the This is Your Life Tour. And it is so much fun for us to travel along with Connie, as she explores where her parents lived when they were young, reunites with friends from her past, and meets some interesting folks along the way. As she wends her way to Scotland, she beings to sort herself out. What does she want the rest of her life to look like? And how does dull but responsible Roger fit in? Will she go home? Will she leave Roger?

Serious questions for sure, but this is not a serious book. It’s a loving and light-hearted look at life, as viewed by a pleasant and caring 66 year-old woman. Connie has a change of attitude-life is for the living and for Connie, living means being more “determined, less guilty, and...

Cathy: 4.5*
Sixty six year old Connie McColl loves her children and grandchildren but is tired of being taken for granted. Tired of her husband spending every waking hour at the golf club. Tired of ferrying him to and fro at all hours. The final straw came when no-one, except her dear friend, remembered the anniversary of their son Ben’s death. It should have been an unforgettable date for them all and no-one had even mentioned it.

Connie pondered and deliberated then made up her mind. The next day she packed a bag and set off in Kermit, her little green car, leaving a note for her husband and emails for her children. She felt she had to rediscover the Connie she used to be, the one who wasn’t chief cook and bottle washer, wife, mother, babysitter, taxi service and solver of problems, before it was too late.

This was such a delightful read. I liked Connie from the start and more so as the story went on. She’s a very sympathetic, relatable character and it was a joy to share her adventures. With no specific destinations in mind Connie meanders through England and into Scotland. The weather is kind and, taking back roads, the countryside looks just perfect to...
