Mike Rutland: A great read with an interesting story - cuts off to lead in to the second novel of the series.
Well translated from the German.
A new interesting author to add to my list

Catherine D.: Being a wedding photographer myself in this era, as a woman I still face some of the kids, questions that Mimi faces a century ago. I definitely could relate to this aspect. A woman working & thriving in a man's business is such a necessary subject matter to weave into a novel, the hint of romance to come is much welcome too and I'm off to read the next installment!

peggie: I have not finished the book but I am finding interesting as am finding that early 20th century living was unfamiliar to me. It takes you through different experiences of poverty, the working girl (photographer) and to some extent those that have a comfortable life. I am finding the book at times upsetting but the photographer is fascinating.

Ginger Russell: I really liked this. I'm a photography buff, and for some reason there are a lot of books featuring photographers right now. This one was interesting since it takes place in the early 1900's in Germany. There is a lot of information about the cameras and also the small towns in Germany around that time. The main character is a strong woman who is able to live her dream of being a traveling photographer. It ends with a surprise, and there is obviously more to the story. The second book in the series comes out later this year.

Joanne Baker: But a little predictable. So although the characters are likeable, the small town feel is similar to her other books. With the poorly paid workers and their harassed wives wishing for a better life, it did have the same air of them.
Then a newcomer shakes them up a bit, before she has settled in and come to see that there is not much choice to dream big. Finally the prodigal son returns, what will happen next?

POTLUCK: I have read all the books that have been translated by this author. I think she does a great job with creating characters, and I have really liked them. Someone wrote that nothing was resolved in this book, and she was angry and wasn't going to buy the next one.....I guess my feeling is this is a saga, and the second one with wrap it up. The other books I read were that way. My only complaint is it wasn't as long as some of her books....I look forward to September when i have already pre-ordered my book. Today I received What Once Was True, by Grainger, and I look forward to starting that when I finish The Photographer. If you kind of like stories like The Shell Seekers, Five Smooth Stones, and The First Wives Club (I miss Goldsmith) you will like Petra's writing.

Danna S: I was very excited when this book was recommended to me on Amazon. I’m a woman and a photographer, and I started out in the military, which is mostly a man’s world. The premise of the book was irresistible to me! However I must say I was very disappointed by the loose plot. There wasn’t really a climax to the book, most of the action took place in the last 5%, and there was no resolution to anything. I understand a second book will be coming out later this year and I’m not sure if I’ll even read it. I love the main character and her personality, but there seems to have been so much time wasted in the book on characters who played no real part in the story. I wish there was more to the story.

thenunn: A young woman ,sets off to follow in her favourite uncles footsteps..loved the characters ,Anton is a strong ,can do boy i think ,and Alex, well I hope his art takes him far. Mimi, I picture as quite tall ,slender, big eyes ,masses of hair beautifully kempt. I loved the story , the descriptions of people ,places, feelings ,all wonderfully woven .
My only gripe is the ending ..why leave it in such a way , a bad way ..I know you want the reader to buy the next in the series , but by the time that comes out ,I feel the connection between them will be lost. I did not feel it was a good plac e to finish this book .

GH: A very good story about a young woman that becomes a photographer like her beloved uncle that traveled to take photographs

Kindle Customer: Facebook completely took my breath away. I loved the historical fiction and a little bit of romance mixed with a modern progressive woman.
