Debra: This book was ok but unimpressive. Alice is shy, Kit is confident and sexy. Alice asks Kit for lessons to be more alluring in order to entice a man into proposing marriage. This, of course, leads to a few sexual encounters and they fall in love. Kit briefly struggles with commitment issues. The end. Book could have been written in 100 pages. Needless internal dialogue and uninteresting side characters increased book length.
Although book was set in 1895, it still had a much too contemporary feel to it. I will not continue this series and am undecided whether I'll read another book by this author.

Colleen: Kit and Alice are one of my favorite romance couples of all time. Reading this book cemented Joanna Shupe as an auto-buy for me. She is a Gilded Age genius.
The Lady Gets Lucky has familiar tropes (rake and good girl, carnal lessons, overbearing mother) but Joanna Shupe's writing elevates the story to something absolutely beautiful.
After finishing I asked my husband if we could have another baby and name it Kit, lol.

Madina Y: This story gave me SUCH Evie and Sebastian vibes from Devil in Winter and dear oh dear did I LOVE those two.
Considering this is the second book in this series, I’ve had time to get over my initial gushing and can be more analytical with my review.
So far, my takeaway is this. Joanna is amazing at the “build up”. She’s also really great at the first explosive “physical” get together. However what doesn’t work for me is the AFTER in her stories. The moments where the love is suppose to be so strong and angsty it’s practically suffocating the characters. That doesn’t ever come through. Instead we get a lengthier time where the characters are “confused” about their emotions for one another. And in both books, only the last 4% had a peak into the conclusive “get together.” Maybe what I’m after is lengthier epilogues that illustrates a true happily ever after.
P.S. On to read book 3 but I’m not sure how much I’ll enjoy this one considering the hero was always ALWAYS flaunting his mistress and no doubt the heroine saw them together in multiple settings.

Marion Marchetto, author: This second book in the Fifth Avenue Rebels series, does not disappoint. Following on the heels of book #1 – The Heiress Hunt – the story is centered around Miss Alice Lusk, a shy young woman who is in her third season. Alice’s mother keeps her on a short leash, constantly haranguing the young heiress to mind her manners and embarrassing her in front of society. Being an heiress isn’t easy. Seems that only men who are in need of her dowry take any interest in her. The young attractive bachelors shun this proverbial wallflower. At a house party in Newport, Alice meets Christopher Ward, a scoundrel who turns any woman into a vixen. He’s just the sort of man Alice needs to teach her the basics of how to seduce a man into loving her and not her money.
Kit, as he’s called, agrees to provide the delectable Miss Lusk with some pointers in exchange for recipes from Chef Franconi who Kit has been trying to lure as chef for Kit’s new supper club. Seems Alice and the Chef are good friends and he has allowed Alice to dabble in the kitchen without her mother’s knowledge.
As one can imagine, the platonic instructions move along rather quickly into some intimacies...

TracyJane: While attending a house party hosted by the Websters at their Newport “chapeau”, Boston heiress Alice Lusk makes a decision that will change her life. After years of verbal and emotional abuse at the hands of her mother, Alice is determined to marry – but she wants a man who will love her for herself, not her father’s money. So, she figures her best bet is to seduce a man, but how does a painfully shy, insecure, proper young lady do such a thing? By hiring the man her hostess’ daughter swears can turn even the shyest woman into a vixen – Christopher “Kit” Ward.
Kit is a self-described scoundrel, a playboy with charm, good looks, and money to spare and in no rush to change. So, when the pretty little wallflower asks for help, he is ready to send her on her way, but then he learns she is close friends with the famous Fifth Ave Hotel chef, Angelo Franconi – the very man Kit and his business partner and friend Preston have been trying to hire for their supper club! Alice makes it clear, chef Franconi will never leave the hotel, but she is sure she could persuade him to sell the men some of his famous recipes, as well as the rights to use his name and in...
