S. Encinger: There were times I thought I knew what would happen, and I read it right. Then there were times I didn’t. Love this book. Romantic, sad, suspenseful. Worth your time.

Susan Yea: I really enjoyed this book. No huge surprises, just good characterisation. It's great that the author didn't try to make the grandmother other than she had been when young... I won't give the story away, but, nicely done

D. C. A. Price: Not as good as the two other books I’ve read by this writer. It was a bit fey and predictable - maybe I’m just too cynical to be able to enter into the spirit of this novel (see what I did there?).

Shari Ring Wolf: This was a good book to read. I only listened to the narration while driving. The male narrator was "ok", but the female narrator was horrible. I especially cringed when she would do the children's voices! I stuck to reading when possible.
I eagerly awaited the release of this book. I've read other books by this author and enjoyed them. I was a little disappointed in this one, likely because I anticipated reading it, so set my expectations high.
It seemed like it took forever for the plot to be set. Once it was, it was a no brainer to know how it would all play out. The characters were quite prim and proper, definitely a G rated story.
Which was fine. What I found unnecessary and a bit irritating was the way the characters in the 1916 setting were given the perceptions of people from the 21st century. I am 62 years old. I am glad to say that thankfully, racism and bigotry have settled down on a formal level, or in books and movies. In this story, Alice's father is liberal minded in a way that had to have been unthinkable back then. I felt like the author candy coated history in order to be 21st century politically correct, a rather chicken hearted...
