Bev: Most people nowadays don't buy cookbooks like they used to. I too check the internet for recipes instead. But I bought this book to give me ideas and inspiration, for expanding my vegetarian mealtime regulars. This book is beautifully illustrated and well-organized. Its index is better than many these days. It doesn't get very exotic or heavy on ethnic cooking, so it may be a disappointment if you are looking for that. It has a good instructive section on tools and vegetables. I didn't think I needed any of that, and was surprised to learn a thing or two I didn't know.

William: I didn’t try any recipes yet, but was looking through the book. It’s not just recipes it is full of information about vegetables and the preparation of them. Also ingredients that should have on hand to make your cooking process easier. I can’t wait to make some meals and will comment on them when I do.

Unique: I was a big fan of America's Test Kitchen, Cooks Illustrated and Country Cooks but have tired of the lack of recipes on common foods. Out of hundreds of recipes there are very few that use anything that isn't the latest trend or "coming to a grocer near you" some time in the far future. Now I'm just looking for something new or different from the usual boil, fry or bake. That's pretty much all there is to cooking; isn't it. The new trends like Sous Vide is nothing more than boiling in a ziplock bag on low temps and the other new methods are often just new words used for the above mentioned old words. Old recipes just have words converted into a foreign language. The recipes ingredient list and cooking method says all you need to know and their 'new recipes' have become nothing more than a marketing pitch. Don't get me wrong. They still have some real gems in their recipe arsenal. Too bad there are so few of them. Another pet pieve of mine is a variation of a recipe that is lauded as a whole new recipe. It's the same recipe with a different veg, meat or fruit which makes searching for something new very lengthy and tedious. Not a rewarding experience. I'm still a site wide...

Kathy Lenehan: OK, I'll admit it; I'm an America's Test Kitchen groupie. I've watched their TV shows forever and when I had to make some major dietary changes because of health issues researching their cookbooks was a logical step.
My kidney doctor highly recommended the DASH diet and when I asked about a weight loss plan he sent me to his group's nutritionist who suggested I add the Mediterranean Diet. I found a book on Amazon that helped me make sense out of both diets, The DASH Diet Mediterranean Solution: The Best Eating Plan to Control Your Weight and Improve Your Health for Life by Marla Heller and this helped me understand how to integrate both diets' concepts into my meals. After reading this I went to my reliable ATK resources and purchased ATK's The Complete Mediterranean Cookbook: 500 Vibrant, Kitchen-Tested Recipes for Living and Eating Well Every Day that has a lot of information as well as meals for all tastes and cooking ability.
I've made vegetarian meals every once in awhile but never considered myself a vegetarian, but when I saw The Complete Vegetarian Cookbook I thought this would help me not only add tasty vegetarian meals but also learn how to get the best...

Luciana G.: This book is amazing. Every recipe that I have tried is delicious and worked perfectly. I am NOT a master chef, so the clear directions and the guaranteed results are important to me. The book has thousands of recipes. Generally for each recipe there are a few more "variations" that you can try if you like different "ingredients". I love this book! My kids also like the foods I prepare with it. It's a winner! I highly recommend it.

You Can't Have My Name: I wanted to include more vegetarian meals in my diet, but hunting for recipes online can become tiresome quickly. Having a book that includes professionally-tested recipes makes this much easier!

There are some fantastic tips for adding more flavour to your vegetarian dishes, as well as tips and tricks for cooking with veggies.

That said, quite a few of the recipes in this book are quite involved. It's great if you're cooking on a weekend and have some time, but many of the recipes would be difficult to whip up on a weeknight after a day at work.

But, I'm still happy with this book. If nothing else, it offers some great inspirations on different ways to consume more plant-based foods.

Reviews by RachelReviews by Rachel: I love to shop on Amazon, but it can be a risk to order a brand new cookbook without having a physical copy to browse first. I am an America's Test Kitchen fan and have many of their cookbooks, so I am basically comparing this new cookbook to others by them that I have.

****The book itself: quite heavy for one of their paperback cookbooks. It's got to be at least as heavy as the many of the hardcovers. The binding isn't that great. Although I am super gentle with my cookbooks, I anticipate that this one will have a crack down the spine.   It's about 450 pages and I don't see any full-page pictures, most are a quarter page or so. Its layout is standard America's Test Kitchen style, with sidebars and boxes that highlight certain techniques and ingredients.

This book is divided into eleven chapters:
