Linda Halley: Just as good as the first I the series

Lala: This book, like the one before is beautifully written and a pleasure to read. I'd underestimated how challenging life was at home for those who remained but with Emmy and Bunty I've learnt no end. Such an enjoyable read.

Paul A. Guillan: Following the success of Dear Mrs Bird this is the difficult second album and as other reviewers have noted it suffers in comparison .
Without the setting of the blitz which really gave immediacy and tension to the first book and as the war has moved on this is a far more domesticated novel and and TBH I threw in the towel when spoiler alert Emmy and her beau decide to get married . Before that it trundles along with with the magazine playing a greater role in boosting the important role of women working on the home front all very worthy but pretty tedious for me .
Lacks drama

Amazon Customer: This takes the reader on from Dear Mrs Bird as Emmy makes her mark as a writer and columnist during WWII. It offers some insight into society at that point in time but is a lovely light read, something I was able to share with my 93 year old mum in law (and she has subsequently recommended it to her friends).

L. M Young: This is the sequel to Pearce's delightful DEAR MRS. BIRD, finding Emmy Lake now firmly established at the magazine "Woman's Friend" under the supervision of Mr. Collins, the brother of her beloved boyfriend Charles. Emmy is now the editor of the new column "Yours Cheerfully," and the women's magazines have been pushed by the British government to step up and try to encourage more women to do war work because the war plants are understaffed. Emmy's glad to do so, until she meets some women war workers, including Anne Oliver and her precocious daughter Ruby and Baby Tony. Anne tells her how difficult it is for her to work with needing child care, and when another woman working in Anne's war plant is fired because she had to bring her daughters to work, Emmy is determined to Do Something.
This is a sweet followup to Bird, if with a less compelling storyline, although the problem of women war workers finding childcare was a very real one and many women did lose their jobs because they had to bring their kids to work. Emmy and Charles' romance is also very sweet, and the efforts Emmy and Bunty go through to help the war workers is both heartwarming and funny.

jgyweniverel: Emmeline Lake, aspiring journalist, is finally writing a real story about the war. The only problem, a tyrannical factory boss is making lives hard for her new friends, and the more she tries to help, the more her hands are tied.
I truly enjoyed reading this second book. I loved how all the characters have returned, and we are introduced to new and exciting characters. As the war advances, Emmy is being dealt new challenges and opportunities to grow and learn. I am still amazed how the author got her idea for this series from old WWII women magazines. This storyline is so interesting and informative of this time period, and how the wives, widows, daughters, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, and children of servicemen had to deal with life on the home-font.
I am excited to see where the author will take Emmy and our amazing characters next. The only bad thing I have to say about this book…. It ended at a good point and now I have to wait for the third book’s release.

RueRue: Second book in a series, definitely left open for another sequel. I really enjoyed the first book, and this one is almost as good. Lovely characters, humor, and some sad bits too.

Book Club Member: "Yours Cheerfully," by AJ Pearce is the second in her Emmy Lake series. I think it is important to read the books in order, so if a reader hasn't read the first installment, "Dear Mrs. Bird," I would recommend starting there. The action in "Yours Cheerfully," takes up where the first book left off, set in London in World War II. Emmy Lake is the protagonist, who took very risky chances during the first novel, but has survived to be promoted upon the departure of Mrs. Bird, the advice columnist in the first book for the magazine "Woman's Friend." To be honest, I slightly missed Mrs. Bird, Emmy's nemesis and an irascible presence in the first book. In "Yours Cheerfully," the advice column has changed considerably, tackling more difficult issues of the day. Indeed, the whole magazine under the leadership of the editor Mr. Collins has become more of a serious and popular journal, with impressively increasing circulation numbers. Emmy not only has supervision of the advice column, but her dream of becoming a journalist is realized when she covers the plight of women working in jobs formerly held by men until they all went off to war. Emmy interviews women workers and their male...
