robert lloyd: the works on these letters burn out immediately after being lit for about 10 seconds. It is quite a chore to replace them, I gave up. They are not worth buying and do not depend on them for survival. You're better off with strike matchesthen you are with these.if you insist that these are survival lighters / matches you'd better bring one for each time you want to start a fire. That means you will only get about one use out of each lighter.

Most of these comments are the result of ignorance and user error.
Can you overfill, yes.
will it spill if you tip it over, lol duh, of course.
Will wick eventually burn away? Yes but it lasts much longer IF you do not let it burn longer than 10 seconds, or the time it takes to light something.
As far as breakage, I cannot give an explanation, but in today's world things are not always well built.
I love my lighter, and have handed it over to many folks who for whatever reason had difficulty lighting it.
I highly recommend getting this product except for the fact that I have a recurring charge coming out of my bank account every month from Clickbank that handles Survival Life's subscriptions. I never agreed, to my knowledge, to Any subscription to anything that would cost me money every month. I am pretty savvy, and always on the lookout for scams. I greatly dislike companies that try to swindle people. If you are providing a legitimate, wanted service, people will gladly pay you. Do not like companies that conduct business in this manner

Alright, so I bought this basically for the novelty that it is. Yeahoshopping shipped it very fast, standard shipping ordered on a Friday and I received it on a Monday. I thought I'd order a few extras for people I thought might enjoy them, so I ordered 4. Just to let everyone know, when you purchase 1, you get a set of two lol. So I ordered 4 and received 8. The match itself seems to be built well enough, it is plastic encased in steel but unless you're deliberately trying to break it I think you'd be fine in most situations. It is indeed a novelty, expect that and you'll have no disappointments. It's like taking a great tool that has been in existence for many years and downgrading it and figuring out a way to sell it.
"You like lighters? Me neither, give me a stick with cotton soaked in lighter fluid. I hope you love the smell of lighter fluid because with this nifty little gadget you'll have it on your fingers with every strike of the match guaranteed!"
I'm convinced this was someone's research for an advertising course they were taking on how to sell people an old product, or re-invent one. It worked lol, and the match does work. It's just...

pabo: Excellent support from the seller, the only reason I gave a second star. Was surprised to receive two and both worked. The fire starter is very compact and light, easy to carry. My concern is if you don't pay close attention and tilt the device lighter fluid will come out. In my case it spilled on my left thumb and next thing I know is "flame on". Fortunately I was able to drop the lighter and smoother the fire on my hand before damage occurred. There should be a cap to plug the fill hole when the striker is removed. They should at least include some basic instructions including a warning about the above. To the sellers credit they offered and gave a full refund tho that wasn't what I wanted. If you get one please be aware of this possible dangerous event.

C. Rumsey: They work as advertised. I have lighters that use a wick and they dry out in weeks or less. I try us to use this once a month. It's still going strong. I keep it for emergencies in my van. I haven't needed to refill it since the day I got it.
