Vicki in Ottawa: Works well but very loud. I have another Whisper and it truly whispers, almost can't hear it. This one has a loud hum/buzz sound.

Ronald L. RussellRonald L. Russell: Over the past 20+ years keeping fish, I’ve used Marineland Emperor, ATI HydroSponges, Eheim 2213 and 2215, Tetra Whisper, and most recently, Seachem Tidal filters. All were reliable and capable of maintaining good water quality if properly maintained, however, the maintenance required was different on each. I’ll mention some of the high points for the other brands, then go into a little more depth for the Whisper, which is the subject of this review.
To just briefly sum up some of these differences:
Marineland Emperor used disposable pads which cost quite a bit more than those used in the Whisper, plus had a separate media basket which could be used to hold anything you liked.
I’m not sure the Bio-wheels are as great as the advertising implies, which is to say, they worked, but I could not tell that they worked better than other solutions for biological filtration. My Emperors had the adjustable flow control knob, but newer models have deleted this feature, and only run at one flow rate.
ATI HydroSponge sat inside the tank, and provided excellent biological filtration, but if operated by an air pump, not great mechanical filtration (the water didn’t...

Fave Auntie: So this just arrived yesterday and I wish I had a before and after picture of my tank. There was literally algae growing all over the sides of my aquarium because my old pump broke. I put this pump on last night, stirred up all the water and algae off the glass, when I woke up in the morning my tank was crystal clear!! I bought a pack of large filters with it also and changed the filter this morning because it was pretty green and I didn't want to work the pump too hard and wreck it. I am very happy with this pump and my cats are very excited to be able to watch the fish clearly now!

Scypheroth: Im VERY pleased with this little filter. Keeps my 30 gal tank clear as day. The quality is great and i sit 4 feet away from it for roughly 8 hrs a day and you can hardly if not at all hear it working. The filters are a decent price though the water pickup tube is a little small but isn't a huge issue. Has a water feed level dial on top to control the amount of water it filters to help extend the life of your filters. Great filter system for the price...you cant go wrong.

Mirm Sharp: Works great, I had a slightly smaller one that didn't last long but I did like the quietness of it so I am hopeful this one lasts longer. I was going to exchange it for another brand but I am giving this bigger model a second chance. So I like it very much

L E Harrison: Recently I “adopted” two African Clawed Frogs from my son’s school. And by adopted I mean, his teacher sent out an SOS begging for someone to take these frogs so she didn’t get stuck with them and I foolishly agreed. Did you know ACFs can live between 20-30 years?
Yeah, me either. But NOW we know and that’s…got to count for something.
We had our tank set-up and cycled because we were going to get some goldfish to celebrate the end of Kindergarten, however the classroom science project needed a good home (they
raised the frogs from tadpoles). So, we got the frogs and everything was *almost* great.
You see the issue is that aquatic frogs need the water level to be several inches below your tank’s fill line, I know you’re thinking this isn’t a big deal but I promise you, it is. My Fluval C2 clip-on-the-back filter was a reliable workhorse, filtering out goldfish poop with the ease of a pressure washer dusting a bookshelf. But once the water level in my tank was lowered just 3”, the filter could no longer hold it’s prime. I emailed the good people at Fluval asking about extension tubes for the intake but they said it wouldn’t work until...
