D.Levak: I got this filter because my aqauclear was way too noisy and I constantly had to fill it up with water when the power went out. This filter is made really well, I increased the water level after I got this and now my aquarium is so quiet it's barely noticeable! I can't say a single bad thing about this!

Gary Walker: Just purchased my second Tidal 55, love this filter. Easy to clean, holds a good amount of media, creates good surface agitation, and does a great job of providing crystal clear water. Add a coarse sponge pre-filter for the intake tube and it's as good of an HOB filter that there is available. Self priming is an added bonus, making it better, at least for me, than the Aqua Clear.
Only negative, not a good filter for small fry or shrimp; too many intake slots. Just don't use it on a baby making tank.

Amazon Customer: This 55 gal unit has not given me any problem. It, as stated is quiet and powerful. I find that food does not go into the surface skimmer as the water exiting from the filter pushes it away. The extension tube has picked up more waste then my 50 gal Aqua Clear did in a two week time frame. But my default filter will almost always be Aqua clear, as this is the first time I have had one of these and its too new to determine reliability. The media inside is easier to extract then other filters as the entire basket comes out without any openings on its side to drip water. Just the bottom.

AmazonCustomer: Great filter all around. However, there is a design flaw. Water bypass is inevitable.

Smidgy: Was missing part at the bottom of the filter that adjusts the filter to level. We had the screw, but the part the screw goes into was missing. I am currently using playing cards to level the filter.

Seems like a great filter design and the unit is very quiet for a hang on the back filter. Just the missing part is the frustrating piece.

Sean: Have used numerous HOB filters, these are by far the best flow, effective cleaning and quiet. Has many convivences others do not offer. Supercharge the filter by adding bio balls or your own media with the supplied foam filter = crystal clear water. They are pricey but well worth it.

Megan S: I've had this filter for a few years now and it is the best one I've had so far. It is incredibly quiet and its filtering ability is amazing. The filter pads last quite a while and are easy to rinse off in expelled tank water on cleaning day. The company is also great. I had an issue with the motor and reached out to the company. They got back to me immediately and sent out a new one the same day. I can't recommend this filter enough.

Karine RicardKarine Ricard: The media could not be loaded.  Some comments compare this filter to the aquaclear 50.. I have both. In terms of water level, Seachem needs higher water line than the aquaclear otherwise, there is an awful suctionning noise. For the power of the filter system, the Seachem definitely beats the aquaclear. The real issue with the seachem comes from the filtering media coming with the filter.. the sponge is basically see trought and the worst to filter small particules out of the water.. Add some sponge media for sure otherwise it does an awful job at keeping the water clear... once this is changed, the Seachem beats the aquaclear 100% for keeping the water clear... first pic is the aquaclear 50 in a 20 gallon, 2nd is the seachem 55 with new filter media in a 40 gallons.. (the aquaclear was not powerfull enought for my 40 gallon so i put it in a 20 gallon)

Alaina Dugas: I have been a long-time fan of AquaClear HOB filters for about the last 25 years, and still am. However, I have two tanks currently running that needed a filter with a lower "waterfall" spout (where the water flows out of the filter into the tank). The ACs have very short spouts on their smaller models, and the evaporation on these particular tanks would cause the filter to create a lot of waterfall noise within a day or two because they didn't hang low enough into the tank. So, a year ago I tried a Cascade HOB, which was great until it totally died at the 1-year mark. Needing a new option, I set out to see if there was something else that fit my requirements - a low-hanging water outtake, adjustable flow, and super quiet at around the same price point as an AquaClear. I saw some great reviews on this Seachem filter and went with this model for my 33gal simply because it has the intake tube, which the smaller filter doesn't have and seemed odd to me. It's been running for a few days and over all, I'm very please with it. It is EXTREMELY quiet. It hangs low enough into the tank that I don't have to top it up every day to keep the water noise at a minimum. It is self-priming which...
