Taltos: A Tale of Magic and Mystery in the Lives of the Mayfair Witches

Leo: The writing of Anne Rice is good, however the quality of the book itself is beyond poor. Very thin paper, small print, and print is too close to the inwards margin. Takes away from the joy of reading. Book needed to be bigger (at least 20%) and the pages better aligned to the seam.

MissH: Firstly, the product was delivered as sold in great condition and was well packaged with fast delivery, hence the 5 star rating.

But, the actual story Taltos was a grudgingly 3 stars, (after recomendation from an older relative to read The Mayfair Witches) i read the witching hour (book 1) which I loved and had to see what happened next, read Lasher (book 2) kind of started to go off track and not quite a reflection of the witching hour but I continued on to Taltos (book 3) and the story went off on a weird tangent hardly a glimmer of the witching hour feel, actually I struggled to engage with it and lost interest, it’s sitting half read on the bedside cabinet, i wish i had just left the story at Lasher. Look forward to reading more from the author but this one, i’ve got to say, was not her best.

Anne Applin: It was as good now as when it was published. She takes me home to New Orleans. The sounds, the scents, the heat. You have to read all 3, but this one is so full of hope and promise. I wish she was alive to write another one. I will not watch the tv series. I already know that they've messed up too many details. Read the books!

Kindle Customer.: This was my second reading of The Mayfair Witches. Phenomenal. I chose to read it again because of the AMC series. Much is lost in the series. Read the book for an astounding journey.

FlemFlamMan: For such a descriptive book it ended oddly. Perhaps Rice had said her piece and so she hurried the ending. I didn’t feel why Michael or Rowan would love Ash, nor was his feeling of betrayal explained or resolved. Never satisfied and an Odd ending. Of course it is also an an odd series and I enjoyed reading it 40 years in between reads.

gg: Taltos, Lives of the Mayfair Witches, was an absolutely wonderful read! Anne Rice is a great storyteller and in her final installment of the Mayfair Witches, she concluded a fantastic adventure. When you read a book that is exactly what is to happen. You are to be part of the story - have an adventure.

I read and loved all 3 books in succession and the ending of this one was wonderful. In all of her books, some reviewers were harsh on Ms. Rice. But perhaps these particular people are under the impression that it is just as easy to write a book as it is to READ one. They should try it sometime. It's not easy at all. But Anne Rice makes it look easy.

Her carefully chosen words read like poetry in some places and that draws a reader into the rest of her novels. I am a fan of long novels which is why I loved reading these ones so much. I was taken to New Orleans, Scotland, and New York to name only a few places. What could be wrong with that? I had fun reading these books and was drawn into the storyline from the first page of the first part of these books.

I really loved Ash! His character was so loving and so ethereal, that I wanted to meet him! Imagine that!...

Jaste: Every since reading Lasher when someone left it behind I've been left intrigued by the Mayfairs. The third book in the Mayfair Witches series, which tells the story of Ash, a centuries-old Taltos (Taltos grow to a height of seven feet, carry an extra set of chromosomes, and have a superior intelligence that enables them to digest dictionaries and encyclopedias in moments.). The book centers around a wicked scheme being pursued by the Talamasca, an order of scholars who study the supernatural and keep records of the Mayfair witches. When a particular scholar is murdered, Rowan Mayfair, the mother of the half demon/half witch in Lasher, and husband Michael Curry investigate. Ash meets with them, shows them that he's harmless, and, like Lasher, has his own story to tell. Although this novel is a suspenseful and sometimes thought-provoking page-turner, it does not stand on its own; the first two books in the series must be read first.

G: Up till chapter 25 I thought it to be an incoherent and rather pointless read, bathing in a kind of small-scale irrelevance. Rice didn't seem to be able to pick the story up in a rush, and write a worthy, grand sequel to Lasher. It is well written, but only "okay" or "good". Three stars maybe.
But from Chapter 25 onwards, she finds her submlimity again, when she goes into the history of the Taltos. This is truly a maginificent, spell-binding and overpowering read. THis is clearly top-popular-fiction writing for me, and deserves 5 stars.
so I end up giving 4 stars.
I was truly moved by the story of Ash, and the ending was also very much emotionally moving for me.
Overall, I am very satisfied with how the trilogy ends. All ends are tied together with genius and with incredibly creative literary writing.
In all, I liked the first three Vampire Chronicle books a bit better, but with the Mayfair witches trilogy Rice has truly written top quality books and a story that is both terribly inventive and simply a moving, fascinating and absorbing read.
