Dr. B: I used to own a Clark Snakmaster, which was a sandwich maker sold around 1990 that would seal sandwiches and cut them diagonally in half. After having moved twice since purchasing the Snakmaster it must have gotten lost. Lately I've been having a hankering for some of those sandwiches I used to make in the Snakmaster and started looking around to see what kind of sandwich makers were available that would do a similar job.

I came across this particular sandwich maker and noticed that it also makes waffles. I also enjoy homemade waffles but I don't have a waffle iron. So I figured I would kill two birds with one stone and decided to go with this one.

The first thing I made with this sandwich maker was a turkey and cheese sandwich. I used wheat sandwich bread and placed two thin slices of turkey on the bread and then a slice of American cheese with a little bit of mustard and covered that up with two more thin slices of turkey and then the other piece of bread. After the green light came on I placed the sandwich onto the grid and closed it. Three minutes later I opened the lid and I had a nicely brown toasted sandwich

No Name: This waffle maker is very nice and has a number of great features. The interchangeable plates are fantastic! Cleaning this really is simple. Wait for it to cool, rinse the plate if needed, and set in dishwasher. Cleaning complete. If you want to be nit-picky you could say the screws near the waffle trays need to be cleaned with a toothbrush because batter can get stuck in them, but you will probably only have this problem if, like me, your three year old tries to pour batter and misses the tray completely. The nice thing about this waffle maker, besides cleaning easily, is that the handle does not get hot and the trays are actually non-stick. I made regular, fruit, and chocolate chip waffles and none of them stick. My children, though not allowed yet, would be able to touch the handle and make their own waffles with no concern of burn. The only heat caution I could complain about, if you really needed a complaint, is that the plates stick out past the edge of the waffle maker on the sides. (Can see in the current photo) You could get burnt on this but you would have to be doing something very strange to do so. I told my 3yr old not to touch that part and he has...

amazomed: The removable plates was a major reason for selecting this waffle iron. I'm very happy with how easy it is to wash the waffle plates since they can be soaked in water or put in the dishwasher.

(With our previous waffle iron, I spent a lot of time trying to get it clean, which I was never able to do satisfactorily with a paper towel or sponge. It would get sticky from the oil and extra things like bananas that we added to the waffles...and it seemed gross to wipe it off and put it away in the cupboard like that).

The quality of the waffles seems very good. My kids like it when we make extras and then they can heat them up in the toaster for a quick hot breakfast on a school day. Waffles with mini chocolate chips are their favorites.

This waffle iron does not have a light or timer that will tell you when the waffles are done. But that is not a problem for me -- as soon as I pour the batter in, I set my stove timer for three minutes and that is just the right time for my waffles to cook. The waffle maker heats up again for the next batch very quickly. I had debated about whether we really needed a waffle iron, since we could always make...
