James Partlow: Our mop finally bit the dust the other day. For a generic brand, it actually lasted last a while! Anyway, we decided to go for a more well-known brand this time…and what mop is more famous than the Swiffer? This is my first time using their products so take that into consideration when you’re reading this review.

The unit itself was easy to put together. It actually doesn’t come with instructions but you really don’t need them- just attach the handle to the pole and the pole to the mop base. I like how the kit comes with a cleaning solution so I don’t have to get anything else. I can use it right away. I was a little bummed that it only came with five pads, though. You would think that a company like Swiffer would give you a little more for the price they make you pay. Oh well.

Regardless, they did a good job of wiping my floors clean. We have dark hardwood and it got rid of most of the dust bunnies and dirt. Once you attach the bottle to the mop, you can control the jet spray with the trigger at the top. I usually press it a couple of times for every few swipes. I was pleased to see that the mop did not leave any streaks on my floors…I’ve read that...

MLS: I got talked into buying one of these with the excitement of being able to crochet my own cleaning pads that can be washed and because, if you Google instructions, you can refill the bottle that comes full of some god awful smelling solution that would kill anyone sensitive to scents. So, first order of business was to remove the bottle top by heating it in hot water and just "simply twisting it off". Oh, you can get the cap off with some channel locks and A LOT of heating it up in hot water, but it's not for sissies. I immediately dumped the stinky solution and filled the bottle with an environmentally friendly (and lung loving) solution. There are warnings that you CANNOT do this, but, yes, you can and that eliminates buying a new plastic bottle refill and that's a good thing.
The company needs to send batteries that actually work. I got 4 dead AA batteries and was very happy to find a fresh package of some in my cupboard since they will not take rechargeable batteries (which is not something I've tested yet, but you can bet I will since the instructions to not use anything but the solution they sell is incorrect because there's Google that tells you otherwise).
