dphdph: There is a severe design flaw with the Sun Joe SWJ698E 12-inch 9-Amp Electric Chain Saw. I have two sun joe chain saws on a pole; they have worked great for years. So I am a proponent of sunjoe products. So I purchased the Sun Joe SWJ698E. I know sun joe chain saws well, how to set up and use. The chain came off in the first 10 minutes of normal use. The chain properly tighten and normal cuts. Not only the chain, but the tension screw came out (and was lost); found the tension nut.

So looking at the tension screws/nuts of the two sun joe saw, one can see the design flaw. When the chain is properly tight, the SWJ698E only has 3 screw threads left (see right photo, yellow body); whereas the pole sunjoe (left, red) has about 12 threads. As the chain looses, the screw turns. With only 3 threads to spare to start with, the chain easily come comes off. (note, I painted the screw white afterwards in case it came out again. Hard to find in dirt). This is a clear design flaw, that joe sun must know about. (Even if sun joe is using the wrong parts, they should know the risks to users.) I returned for a refund and bought a oregon CS 1500 chain saw.

M. BearM. Bear: I have 47 acres in the country and often have trees come down in high winds..this 12" chain saw works great for trimming all the smaller branches so I can cut up the big pieces. I have (2) 12", (2) 14" (1) 16" & (1) 18" I switch them up as need to cut different sizes of wood...None of them have disappointed me...Keep the chain oil filled & the chain tightened and they will get the job done...for the record I am a senior female and if I can use them anybody can...

Amazon Customer: I have cut up the equivalent of 1/2 a cord of wood so far with no problems. Watch the oil feed closely. Let it cool off if the bar gets too hot. Watch the chain, correct the slack. Let the saw do the work, don't bear down too hard. Work the saw around the cut. The chain speed is not that of a gas driven machine so its a little slower to cut. For light work this is perfect.
