trent weatherman: This has been a great chainsaw for the trees around my house. It's a very straightforward tool to use, with minimal vibration, and easy pull start. I ran into issues with the chain tensioner but that was entirely user error. This has been a really good beginner chainsaw and I've gained a lot of experience with it. Also my hatred for tree roots has increased and this has definitely helped with that removal as well.

SAC Vet: I read the reviews before purchasing this and thought that because the age of the reviews the company (Craftsman - remember Sears) had resolved the problems. They didn't! I opened the box (came with just the saw and no case), read the instructions and did as instructed. The saw ran great and cut like a hot knife through butter the minute I used it for the first time. That was it. Once I stopped, took a break and returned to working, it was a "Bitch" to restart. I waited a few minutes and tried again, and it finally started, but was difficult to keep running. It constantly wanted to stall. The next day when I went to give it another try, I was surprised to discover that the saw leaked all the oil, and the gas had dripped out of somewhere. I cleaned everything, refilled the oil and gas, and tried to restart the saw. After cranking for what seemed like forever, the "Piece of Junk" started, and ran like dog poop (I'm being polite). If you are considering buying this - Don't! If you do buy this - You're a bigger idiot that me. Don't step over a dollar to save a dime. Spend the extra $$$$ and get a STHIL Chainsaw. NOTE: Read the fine print. It's advertised as "CRAFTSMAN", but it's made...

Edward: The reason I didn’t give this chainsaw 5 stars was because I was expecting to get the heavy duty case with it.
The product description says that a heavy duty case comes with this chainsaw. Disappointed, I was hoping for the case. I see other people didn’t get a case either in the reviews but some did . Amazon needs to correct the product description for this chainsaw.

Okay, I'm not an expert. I've been using very good battery-powered chainsaws for many years, but I never had a need for a gas-powered one until recently. I've got several oak trees to fell and the battery saws aren't going to cut it (pardon the pun) so I got this 16" Craftsman.

This is my first day with it, so I can't comment on longevity, but it did such a wonderful job of felling a 12" tree and then cutting up the branches that I couldn't wait to give it a good review. I was even more impressed when I found that I could cut up the entire tree on 1 tank of gas (what is it? A pint?) It came with the first gallon's worth of synthetic oil, but I did have to run down to the hardware store to get some bar & chain oil - which I recommend doing - you can use other oils, but what I've learned (and now observed) the chainsaw bar oil is thicker and stickier so it doesn't flow out too fast and spray all over the place.

It starts right up. Even the very first time only took the 3-5 pulls that it says. When warm, it restarted on the first pull. It cuts...
