michael mufson: Van Zandt’s remembrance of all things past captures both his fascinating life as well as a history of his times and rock and roll
He references the music renaissance he was beholden to often but his memoir reveals a most wondrous renaissance man

Barry from Fareham: I knew some of this but the extra little stories and asides are a treasure trove. A must for any Bruce fan and proof that not all Americans don’t know where Europe is.

Amazon Customer: This is a fantastic rock and roll memoir. My only beef is the shallow, highly judgmental political opinions SVZ peppers the text with. He's a smart guy, an expert in American rock and well versed in the arts more broadly . . . but I would have preferred if he hadn't soured the narrative with bubble gum opinions right out of the rocker-turned-activist playbook. Still, it's generally a great read and interesting as hell.

channers: Well worth a read, so much more than just a soprano. I knew he was also in the e street band but there’s so much more to this story, what a life x

jward: The book was described as new but the outer cover has slight wear and signs of where a sticker has been removed.

Jim in MN: If you want a little more insight into the early Jersey Shore scene where Steve, Bruce, and Johnny got their start, this is definitely the book for you. Steven goes into more detail, and from a slightly different perspective, than Bruce did in his book. Steven also shares his wealth of knowledge about the early music scene in general, and he knows how to tell a good story. It is very interesting so far to see how his role in the Jukes, The E Street Band, and his own career afterward evolved. I'm only about a third of the way through the book, and I'm savoring it slowly because I know I'll be bummed when I finish it and there won't be any more to read.
Getting close to finishing this (still savoring) and felt I had to add to my review as this book tells so much more than just the early Jersey music details. Without any spoilers, I'll just say that I had no idea the depth and variety of Steven's life. I was always impressed with his work on The Sopranos and Lilyhammer, and vaguely remembered his involvement with protesting Sun City in the '80s. but I had no idea how involved he has been with many, many things on such a broad scope. From his contributions in fighting...

Anthony Marino: Right back at you Steven . Loved this book . You can also call this book Unquenchable Lust (for life) I'm thinking maybe a movie or a short Netflix series. But who would play Steven though? Food for thought. Steven knows people, he'll find somebody
I ordered this book before it was released. Sight unseen. Didn't wait for the reviews which I normally do . Prior to this book , I knew very little about Steven. I saw an interview with him a few years ago in which he said his biological father was non existent in his life. I thought this was very sad because my dad was always there for us in all situations . Later in the same interview he mentioned his early days with Bruce Springsteen , and the record execs were trying to separate Steven from Bruce as they thought Steven was a bad influence on Bruce . And Bruce was like , can you take a hike man ? I need this gig and I can't do it with you here . This was also sad to hear , and listening to the rest of the interview, I thought Steven was an interesting person and if there was ever an in-depth book written about him , I would read it . And here it is . I once saw Steven on a daytime talk show , Richard Belzer ? , in the 80s during...

Robert ‘Bob’ MacesperaRobert ‘Bob’ Macespera: Yep, that's me with the man, in Dublin some years ago. He was doing a radio thing for his underground garage series. I was passing and he was getting into his hotel. I stopped him, he was very polite. "Thank you for all that music", I said (or something like that). "Thank you", he said smiling. Some other guys spotted him and started to surround us. I said something like "keep on rocking" and motioned to shake hands and leave. He smiled again. It was the smile he's surely done a million times to followers: tired but sincere. My girlfriend called me. We both looked at the camera and she snapped for posterity. It was a small event indeed for someone who's been following Van Zandt, one way or another, for 30 years. And there I am posing and shaking hands with the musician, the actor, the producer, the activist, the rebel, Bruce's sideman.... And now: the writer.
So I'm biased with this book. Like so many others, I waited eagerly for it. I think I actually liked it before I read it (it happens). But, how really good is it?
It's good, no doubt; and also disperse, incomplete, chaotic, cocky, angry, biased, careless with the words. But it is good, a fun ride for all rock...
