Susan Moore: I was hoping to use this on top of an air mattress to retain body heat. It was too noisy to sleep on top of even though I read that it wasn't as noisy as other mylar blankets. It's going in the car as an emergency blanket like it was meant for.

CaptainAJ: I opted for this SOL heavy duty XL mylar emergency blanket over traditional mylar emergency blankets for adding a lightweight tarp/shelter option into a three-day survival kit build-out for an upcoming training. This emergency blanket will work great for my intended purpose, which will NOT include long-term/overnight wrapping of my body. If you're unfamiliar with/have never used mylar, while it will help reflect heat, it also DOES NOT BREATH!!! Longer-term wrapping of your body will only produce condensation, which leads to moisture, which leads to wet, which leads to convection and loss of body heat, which leads to miserably unfortunate circumstances! This emergency blanket will be used as a tarp/shelter system.

The size of this blanket is approximately 8ft x 5ft and will provide enough coverage and protection for an emergency shelter. This blanket is much thicker and more durable than a traditional mylar emergency blanket. I reinforced the corners with some Gorilla tape and paracord pull-outs for staking or for working with a ridge line, and the total weight is just shy of 8 ounces--perfect, larger coverage, more compactible, lighter, and no less durable...

Mark: This is not your typical space blanket. It may be a bit heavy for some ultralighters, but for weekend warriors who over pack the luxeries and the "just-in-cases" like me, it's just great. Lighter than the survival tarps (which are also great products), this is a little extra protection and peace of mind out on the trail.

It makes a great emergency blanket for the car as well - large enough to keep a couple stuck drivers warm until help arrives.

A good product and worth the price!

Marc Allain: I purchased this for my wife, who is always cold, to cover up while out on our Side x Side on colder nights, and it's the only thing I've found that works. She was comfortable and warm the whole ride. It is definitely reusable and very easy to clean as well.

Jennifer: Really like this as a step up from the average emergency blanket. In addition to emergency usage, I was looking for something reusable to cover a sleeping bag or my tent for extra warmth. It's quite large, so it did a nice job when I anchored it on top of my 9 person CORE tent (which is entirely mesh on top) with aluminum tarp anchors (under the rain fly). When it's cooler, I hope it will keep us a bit warmer. When warm, I have seen reviews from people using mylar to reflect sunlight OUT in the morning to allow for more extended morning rest. Quieter and more durable than the standard emergency blankets I tried first (took two to cover the same area as this one). Will be purchasing more to add to bug out bags. Would like to see a bit lower price point, but for twice the size and twice the durability and usability, I guess $15 isn't too bad. Btw, I also purchased the orange SOL mylar tarp with grommets, and it seems like a great bang for the buck too, again, for its intended use.

EGReviewsEGReviews: I purchased this SOL emergency blanket for use in my car in an emergency roadside bag.

I used to live in the North and occasionally finding myself driving in some pretty backwoods roads. Because of that I or together a bag in my car that contained things like this blanket, 5 day rations bar, spare socks, coat, belt, winter hat, gloves and some water.

While I have not had to personally use this in an emergency I believe this blanket will do well. It's sturdier then the generic Mylar blanket that it replaced.

If you're buying this for a small pack like a lumbar pack or day pack in case you get stuck overnight when hiking then just take note it's pretty large but flat. You might want to consider the size down.

One suggestion I have is; don't treat this like a tarp because it's not and it's not made to be one and it's also not ripstop like a tarp. It's thinner and has no attachment points so stressing it by pulling it taut like a tarp may cause it to tear or if a stick from a tree falls on it etc the. it might just tear it in half.
