NoahNoah: Overall, the Byrd Meadowlark 2 is a great knife and I highly recommend it. It's the perfect size and weight for a folding pocket knife.

PROS
- it's basically a cheaper version of the famous Delica 4 from Spyderco, which is Byrd's parent brand
- I greatly prefer the feel and look of G-10 over FRN/GRN materials, so I chose this version despite the higher cost
- 8Cr13MoV is capable and just fine for my use cases, I don't need high-end steels
- the washers are very smooth out-of-the-box, no need to apply oil
- the full flat grind is very nice, my favorite type of grind
- the jimping is well done
- the comet-shaped thumb hole is a lot of fun and easy to use

CONS
- the lack of chamfer or fillet on the edges of the steel can make the knife a little uncomfortable, such as when handling the lock
- the pocket clip is horrible and detracts from the appeal of daily carrying this knife, deep carry clips are the best (for me)
- the pivot screw was too tight out-of-the-box, hindering ease of opening, but loosening it just a bit helped a lot
- blade centering is sub-par but hasn't caused any issues yet

G R: Très bon couteau. En G10 en plus. Plus petit que le UK Pen Knife, mais beaucoup moins cher. Je l'ai eu d'occasion, comme neuf. 30 balles c'est très correct. Autrement prenez le Meadowlark en G10 à 40 euros.

Anónimo: La verdad es que tenía mis reservas a la hora de comprar mi primer Byrd. Poseyendo una Delica 4 de filo combinado desde hace muchos años sabía que las fabricadas en China no iban a ser unos ejemplares mejores ni por asomo, los controles de calidad y la mano de obra están muy por debajo de los ejemplares Made in USA.
Aparte de que las hojas son de una aleación de peor calidad metalúrgica, 8Cr13MoV, un acero de baja calidad si lo comparamos con el acero japonés VG10, tenemos peores ajustes y acabados. El accionamiento salida de la caja es muy duro y áspero, hay que emplear más fuerza y se nota la falta de un pulido esmerado en la superficie de contacto entre el lockback y la hoja. Mejora algo con aceite y varios accionamientos, pero sigue siendo muy duro si lo comparamos por ejemplo con la Delica y algo más, pero no demasiado, si lo comparamos con la Tenacious. Aparte influye la fuerza con la que el muelle presiona el resorte del lockback, mi pulgar me pide una pausa después de un rato de abrir y cerrar seguido para engrasar y de paso desgastar para hacerla más suave.
Estoy seguro que con desmontar, pulir y aceitar mejoraría bastante más, pero por otra parte no...

Pa P: Aber ich hab wohl ein montags Modell erwischt. Denn beim schließen kommt die Klinge, ca 1 cm von der Spitze entfernt, mit der schneide innen ans Metall. Das ist nur minimal und haut die schneide nicht komplett kaputt, ist aber sichtbar an der Klinge.
Außerdem scheint die Klinge etwas zu viel Spiel zu haben, die Schrauben lassen sich aber nicht fester ziehen.

Ich muss mir eventuell ein zweites bestellen um zu sehen ob das nur an meinem Modell liegt, oder ob das eher Konstruktions Fehler sind.

Das Messer kommt aber in einem super scharfen Zustand, und ist sehr leicht und handlich.

Nachtrag:
Hab mir ein zweites zugelegt und das erste zurück geschickt.
Dieses hat die erwähnten Mängel nicht! Also ein super Messer.
Ich würde mir nur wünschen das das Öffnen und schließen mit weniger Kraftaufwand möglich wäre.

RipoRipo: La Byrd è un marchio di proprietà della Spyderco utilizzato per la produzione off-shore della sua linea economica nel rispetto degli standard qualitativi (e del controllo post- produzione) tipici della casa madre. Il Raven 2 è un pieghevole di medie dimensioni (tra il Cara Cara e il Meadowlark) ideato e progettato da Sal Glesser (fondatore e proprietario della Spyderco). Come tutte le sue creazioni esclusive ne riporta il monogramma sulla lama (vedi foto).

Lama: leaf (a forma di foglia) dal profilo full flat in acciaio Carpenter CTS-BD1 (di produzione americana) perfettamente affilata e centrata. Il BD1 ha una buona ritenzione del filo (superiore e all’AUS8 e all’8Cr13MoV ma inferiore al VG10), è facile da riaffilare (come l’AUS8) e ha un’ottima resistenza alla corrosione (paragonabile al VG10). La finitura satinata è uniforme ma un po’ grossolana. Presenta un incavo per l’indice nella parte inferiore (permette un migliore controllo della lama durante i tagli gravosi sacrificando un po’ di filo) e un’ottima zigrinatura (per aumentare il grip) sia nell’incavo sia sulla parte iniziale del dorso della lama.

Patrick G. Songy: I bought a Spyderco Persistence and Ambitious from their Tenacious line over the past year. Both are really great knives. Good performance, great ergonomics, flow-through construction, good pocket-clip... just about everything you'd want in a pocket knife. The only reason I bothered with anything else is because I still wanted something a bit smaller for the office. I had looked at the Dragonfly. I had two problems with it: no steel liners and nearly $50 was a lot for such a small knife. Also, I was curious to try one of Spyderco's mid-locks, like the ones that you see on their flagships like Delica and Endura. I don't mind experimenting for $23.

That brought me to this knife. It essentially uses all the same materials from the Tenacious line, and has the same dimensions and design as the Dragonfly. The result is a really good pocket-knife. It is about a quarter inch shorter than the Ambitious when closed, and it is maybe 1 or 2/16 of an inch thinner. The fit and finish are excellent. Everything is flush and snugly fastened together. DJ Sticky: So far this knife is performing far above it's price point. Granted I have not put the blade through a huge amount of cutting however what I have done has been pleasing.

This knife is essentially Spyderco's "budget" line version of the Endura 4. At about 1/3 the price one must ask, "am I getting 1/3 the knife?" My answer was "NO!" Yes it is true that you are getting 8cr13mov steel vs VG-10, a slightly lower quality G10 and an overseas produced blade. The real question is this. Are those things a showstopper on a $28-$34 knife? Again for me, the answer was "NO!". Lets do a quick rundown of the knife.

Blade shape is great both for hard use EDC tasks and emergency defensive role. The point is not to delicate as to break at the drop of a hat and the blade provides adequate belly for cutting. At 3.75 inches it is definitely NOT a small blade, which can be both good or bad depending on your needs. Blade steel is Chinese produced 8cr13mov. In my experience it is adequate! No it does not have the rust resistance of VG-10 or the edge holding of 154CM but guess what? You ain't getting VG-10 or 154CM in a 3.17" blade for 30 bucks!
