Spyderco Delica 4: Signature Folding Knife With Lightweight Design

Jatt: This is my second Delica, but probably my 6th Spyderco. It’s compact, lightweight, sharp, keeps a decent edge, and is very handy for general use like opening boxes or light cutting. I can open it easily with one hand, and close with one hand by pressing the point into something to stabilize it while I press the lock release. This and my multitool are my constant companions around the house.

apexfien: The media could not be loaded.  I wanted a true EDC knife with quality materials and build. The Delica 4 lightweight fit the bill perfectly.

Highs
-True EDC that slips into the inner pocket of your jeans or pants. You don't feel it's there.
-Nice saber grind VG-10 steel, made in Japan. Utilitarian vibe to the design.
-All mech is nice and slick out of the box, no stiffness in flicking it open. Back lock feel safe and secure.
-FRN material and texture feels great, solid in hand. Grippy.
-Feel there's good value given the materials, design, and fit/finish.

Lows
-None. Except the handle is on the edge of being too small for my grip, but just makes the "cut". Make sure you figure out the ideal grip you want from the EDC.

Daniel Brdar: welches ich mein eigen nennen kann. Wollte schon sehr lange ein Spyderco Messer, jetzt habe ich eines. Ich finde dass das Delica 4 die für mich perfekte Größe hat. Alles an dem Messer gefällt mir. Die Größe, der Stahl, der Schliff und der Griff bzw das Material. Kam rasiermesserscharf an. Mal schauen wie die Standzeit ist und wie leicht bzw. schwer es sich nachschärfen lässt.

Mir ist bewusst, das es sich bei dem Messer um ein Einhandmesser mit feststellbarer Klinge handelt, wodurch es nicht §42a konform ist und nicht mitgeführt werden darf. Das ist zwar schade aber nicht zu ändern. Ich habe es in erster Linie gekauft, um es meiner Sammlung hinzuzufügen, da ich bis dahin kein Messer mit der Kombination Saber Grind, VG10 Stahl, einen Griff aus FRN und dann noch von Spyderco, besessen hatte.

Es wird bestimmt nicht mein letztes Spyderco gewesen sein. Zum Glück bietet Spyderco auch Slipjoints an. Da gibt es dann keine Probleme mit §42a.

XmasWithGuns: NOTE TO ALL: THIS MODEL IS THE SABRE-GRIND.... NOT THE FULL FLAT GRIND

There are so many things to talk about with this pocket knife. First of all, you'll notice its weight and size. The blade itself is actually less than 3" in length, so I found the knife to be smaller than expected when it first arrived.

However, just because the blade is a bit smaller than expected doesn't mean that this knife isn't top freakin' quality (for $68.97). Well, that is if you're looking for a Fiber Reinforced Nylon handle (basically plastic) and decent quality steel. It's got VG-10 steel and made in Japan which is cool, and so far the knife seems to be holding an edge pretty well.

The back lock is strong, very strong, almost too strong out of the box. It took me about 300-400 open/closes before this thing really started opening up and the mechanism started getting a bit less.... mushy.

It fits great in the pocket, nice and small, barely noticeable. Good 4-way pocket clip. Tip-up/down AND left/right reversible, basically you can carry it any way you like. The FRN handle has inset skeletonized liners inside that protect the integrity of the knife as well as making it...

Bruno: Das Delica war mir immer zu klein und ich mag den Backlock nicht besonders. Aber ich sammle Filmmesser und besonders solche aus Filmen für richtige Männers. Im Film The Hunter mit Willem Dafoe kommt das Delica als Backupmesser beim Jagen zum Einsatz sowie zum Fallenstellen und Bushcraft Zeugs aller Art. Ha ! Das wollen wir doch mal sehen wie sich so ein Zwergenmesser im Felde schlägt.
Out of the Box war der erste Eindruck : man das Ding ist wirklich klein- hoffendlich mach ich das nich gleich kaputt:-)
Dann das Erste mal Klinge öffnen mit dem Spyderco Klingenloch( Kein Daumenpin kann da mithalten!) und ...KLACK !
die äußerst stramme Verriegelungsfeder prügelt den Backlock derart hart in die Klinge das es keinen Zweifel mehr gib : Die Klinge steht- und zwar ohne Spiel...egal wo hin. Ab in die Hosentasche und da blieb es dann zwei Wochen. Voller EDC Einsatz mit Kabel abisolieren und anderen Schweinereien des Alltags.
Fazit:Nix für Bushcrafter ( wie im Film :-)) aber ein sehr gutes Messer mit hervorragendem VG10 Stahl und überragender Schnitthaltigkeit. Und wenn ich es beruflich brauche dann kann ichs ja auch tragen ;-)

marknett: I received this knife and was very pleased . It arrived razor sharp out of the box . It feels great just holding it and i found myself not wanting to put it down . I love the spydie hole for one handed opening . The reviews on the vg-10 steel have all been great and so far the edge has held up well . An awesome knife . Buy one , you won't be disappointed

Updated: As a newly converted spyderco fan , Let me warn all readers. I am not responsible for the money which you will spend after buying your first Syderco. Blame Sal for making such great products . Now on with the review . The Delica legacy has been around for a while now (now on version 4 ) and their is a reason . These are fantastic knives well worth the money. My Delica is a saber grind that was , as usual, razor sharp out of the box . I've had this knife for a couple of months now and I use it for e.d.c rotating out with a Byrd meadowlark . Have I sharpened it in this time , yes I have . Did it need it, not really , but I like sharpening my knives . There is nothing I can find to say negative about this knife . So if you expect this to be a Spyderco bashing ,It's not gonna happen . I think this is the perfect knife...
