Splitvolt NEMA 14-30/14-30 Splitter Switch – Convert Two 30-Amp Outlets to Four 15-Amp Outlets

Craig: We were uneasy about buying an electric vehicle due to the charging dilemma. The availability of this product clinched the decision. Home charging is absolutely a must to make electric viable. We have a Tesla charging station down the road and I watch poor souls sitting in their cars for what seems like an eternity. It is important to know that the limitation of most dryer connections is 240v/30 amp. The switch is rated to 24 amps. You need to be able to limit your vehicles charging controller to about 22 amps or less to keep from tripping either the switch breaker, or the breaker in your home. This is about half of what our charging controller is capable of. So recovering 50% of battery charge (about 100 miles of range) can take up to 8 hours for our particular vehicle. Not super fast, but acceptable; and comparable to the typical level 2 destination charger you would find in a retail parking lot. Overall we are very happy with this solution.

Ran a 50 amp rated extension cord across the ceiling of the garage dropped near the Tesla's charge port. Can't attest to the longevity of it as I've only had it a few weeks but works precisely as advertised.

G: This is a great product that really saved the day. We have a dryer in our garage but otherwise our electrical circuit box is FULL! I was dreading the expense of changing the circuit panal to a accomdate a new breaker for the Tesla. The solution, use the 30Amp Dryer breaker that is already there. The product works perfectly, there is enough current so the Dryer electronics function (even when the EV is charging). However, when the dryer really draws current (for actually drying clothes) the box switches to dryer mode automatically. When done, it switches back (to EV mode) automatically. I had this system installed in running in less than an hour. The only work is to mount the box to the wall. The rest is plug and play.

JustMe: The SplitVolt works beautifully so far bringing 240v into my garage once I ran an extension cord into the garage. Features I really like are 25 amp circuit breaker for EV power supply, dryer given priority for power, digital readout is clear and easy to read. I mounted it above and behind my dryer and ran the EV power cord through the wall into the garage. The power cord was purchased off Amazon as well and had a removable female outlet cover so only wires needed to pass through the walls allowing for only ~ 1" hole through wall into garage to insert the cord. It was a plug and play work requiring just modest handyman skills although care should be taken in mounting on walls to ensure no drilling cuts into concealed power lines. What is really nice is the dollar savings from the cost of having an electrician install outlet from main panel. Due to code changes and lack of an open circuit breaker slot made for expensive option at breaker box. Also, electrician did not offer this as a solution So do your own homework. The 240v/30A circuit from our dryer meets my needs for power to charge my EV at ~22 miles/hr of charging. I've only charged my EV three times so that's the extent of...

David F.: This product is great! The first thing you want to do is turn off the breaker to the dyer in your panel. Slide the dryer out and unplug it. You may have to use a bit of force because they are tight. After you clean out the dust bunnies from back there, use your phone to take a photo of the outlet. You will use this photo to match up the correct unit to order. After you place the order and it arrives, decide on where you want to mount it. Make sure that the cord from the unit is long enough to reach the dryer wall outlet and that the dryer cord is long enough to reach the Splitvolt unit. Once that is figured out, follow directions to mount the unit on the wall. It comes with screws and anchors for dry wall or use a stud finder so you can mount one side to a stud for extra sturdiness. Now, find a place to mount the charging unit holder that came with your car, making sure that the cables are not bent or twisted and that the cable with the wall plug will reach. Mount the holder, preferably on a stud due to the fact that you will be putting tension on it when you use you charger. If you don;t have a holder, you can just let the unit hang.
