H: I usually love rom coms, and have been a big Sophie Kinsella fan in the past. But I have to confess this one felt a little flat to me. The plot was a little contrived and characters unrealistic.
There seemed to be a lot of subplots going on, largely at the expense of the central plot, and with the result that most of the underlying plots felt quite rushed and unresolved at the end.

K. T. Mann: Another typical sophie kinsella book that had me giggling at times. Main character very good. Nice story line. Enjoyable read.

pri_mods: For all Sophie Kinsella fans, this book will feel familiar. The misunderstandings, the lost heroine whose life is falling apart, multiple threads running parallely.. all the hallmarks of a classic Kinsella are there... but the magic is missing.
The endearing heroine is now plain irritating. You just want to bash her on the head and ask her to get a grip on herself and life.
The emotional quotient is somehow imbalanced enough to make this book a complete nono for all Kinsella fans.
My advice would be to reread Twenties Girl and stay away from this one.

E.P. Clark: The Shopaholic series was a guilty pleasure of mine last year, and was just the thing to read while, e.g., sitting in the vet's office when my dog was terribly ill (he's okay now, thanks for asking), so I approached "Can You Keep a Secret" with both interest and a certain amount of trepidation. Kinsella has a formula that works for her, so I assumed that this latest book would be formulaic. But would it be intolerably so?
The answer for me was both yes and no. "Can You Keep a Secret?" definitely follows the pattern that Kinsella set with the original Shopaholic series, of a ditzy and insecure young woman stumbling into good fortune, figuratively and literally, by meeting a high-powered executive and charming the socks and everything else off of him. This SHOULD be complete BS, but somehow Kinsella makes it work.
No, not somehow. She makes it work because her heroines are indeed extremely charming, full of high spirits and keenly aware of the ridiculousness of the positions in which they find themselves, and are always able to overcome their external obstacles and internal insecurities to come out on top, save the day, and get the guy. Kinsella also sprinkles on the...

Patricia: Out of all the books written by Sophie Kinsella this one is my all time favorite! I have read it many times and it never gets boring. I read many books and when I'm not sure what to read next or I'm just in the mood for something funny this is my go-to book. It just puts me in a happy mood with all the laugh-out-loud moments. It's a change of pace and so well written that it truly is a pleasure to read.
Emma Carrington has many secrets. Not big secrets. Just these tiny little ones like how she's afraid of flying, or how she told her boyfriend she was a size 4 instead of an 8 and so on. On a flight back from an important meeting the plane hits some really bad turbulence and she. believes the plane will crash and they will all die. As she's freaking out she spills all these secrets to the stranger sitting next to her. What she didn't expect was to see him again or that he'd be at her workplace for the next week.
Jake Harper is one of the founders of the Panther Cola company and a marketing genius. Along with his best friend Pete they created an empire. But a year ago Pete died in a car accident and with grief Jake lost interest in everything. He's finally coming around...
