Customer Service resolved my issue. Appears that I just got a defective mat. New mat works great and don’t kill the battery.
Original review stated I like the design of this mat and works great but it started killing my 9v battery overnight.

mjg333: I am only giving this mat 3 star because when we first got it, it seem to train the cats not to jump up on the places where this mat was placed. Unfortunately that is where my good review ends. The mat does not work anymore. When it was working, it ate batteries like it was candy. I bought this mat at the end of December, the 29th to be exact. Sometime around the middle of March the mat was not turning on. I figured that it just needed a battery replacement but changing the battery did nothing. Now the mat just sits on a table collecting dust. The only good thing is that the cats will not go by the table that this mat is on.

Sarah: This would be great if it worked every time. It’s almost like it goes inactive or something. If it hasn’t been stepped on in a while I can go slam on it and nothing happens the first few times but then once it goes off once it goes off easily every time it’s touched. This doesn’t do me much good as my dog isn’t going to sit there and hit this several times so it’s basically useless. Really disappointed.
UPDATE: they offered to send me a new one or refund me the money. So despite this product not working for me they made every effort to make it right so I would def recommend this product because if it works it is an amazing product and if it doesn’t for you for whatever reason their customer service is great.

Tiffany: So far this version of the scat matt is going to be good. I have a very pesky cat, who likes to cuddle a lot to gain your favor then his persistence is unbearable. I've learned lessons from my cat because of his curiosity and his sire drive and willpower amazes me still. He's always had a bad door scratching problem, (Thank God he got declawed when he was a kitten.) I know, I know declawing a cat is a sin. I got him declawed because I was living in my parent's camper and he was scratching the carpet and camper carpet isn't cheap so I got him declawed so we wouldn't have a problem with replacing it. He's an indoor kitty. Fast forward to after I got married. My husband says he's not a cat guy but he calls for Robin whenever he gets home and cuddles him and says good kitty were you good for mommy today. (Shh don't tell him I told you that let him think he's keeping up his (I DONT LIKE CATS to the public)) anyway, we got a kitten because we live in a one bedroom apartment and he seemed really depressed. she does fine however they play off of each other.
