Amazing quality and build and better traction if missed click in - I use the M series cleats and 7 click in from open -- left side rear pins out as I lead with right pedal... Aggressive AM riding and commute to work fun. Not much heavier than my Shimano M700 SPD.
Love the gold and it now uses an 8mm Allen key to install - up from 5 or 6mm.

I really like these pedals. I wanted something extremely robust I could use with regular shoes that would stand up to riding in really trashed urban riding (downtown SF) as well as handle gravel and dirt. I have these on a lemond prolog and I ride with both giro rumble VR and usually a couple different pairs of Arc'teryx trail running shoes depending on the weather. Both work well with these pedals (they both have pretty chunky tread, so I don't know how well "actually flat" shoes would work). I tend to ride pretty aggressively, up out of the saddle, riding like a dirt bike. They're easy to get out of, although you have to be deliberate (I usually pop one out a few seconds before I get to an intersection or whatever to make sure there's no last minute drama. Getting back into them is mostly no fuss, and I often don't really know for sure that I'm back in until I pull an up stroke and notice the pedal. That might be my only complaint, the engagement is not super assertive, I kind of put my foot where I think it should be and smash it and things just work out.
I'm definitely not riding downhill on a mtb, but the roads and trails here are super sketchy and...

I run these on my gravel bike. Weight isn't that big of a deal to me. I can clip out and in easy and never have to look down. Love the wider platform. Wide platform helps a lot!

Prefer clipless pedals for MTB but was having issues when landing jumps and drops with xtr pedals. My shoes would sometimes come unclipped when I hit the ground with decent impact. I think not having a flat pedal/base was causing heel to drop too much and disengage clip. Combined these with flat/skate style shoes made by Shimano to go with these pedals. Hasn’t happened since and like the feel of less stiff shoes on flat platform. Also, easier to clip in and even if you still miss, pedals large enough to pedal until you bet to spot where you can clip in. Love these!
