SHIMANO PD-EH500 SPD Bike Pedals are the best choice for cyclists looking for superior customer support, easy installation, and quality construction. These pedals feature a dual-sided design that works with both casual and clip-in shoes, removable traction pins for superior grip and control in wet conditions, and a light action binding mechanism for quick clipping. Enjoy the overall satisfaction of the Shimano PD-EH500 SPD Bike Pedals with the included cleat set!

I bought these for a new gravel bike. A bike I know I'd take for spirited rides, but also one for noodling around to local stores, and with family. I like how they stay SPD side up. It's easy enough to flip over if you're just using sneakers or other casual footwear. The pins are nice to have, makes things more grippy.
I will say that after a bit, you will need to adjust the tension to be greater. I've pulled up a couple of times on steep hills - doesn't help the shins much...
Otherwise, I love the pedals, and are a great compromise for dedicated SPD pedals. It's a style of pedal I may use with my son who is starting to enjoy riding more, and may benefit from being clipped in.

Inertia: Was looking for a pair of hybrid clips for mountain trials, this set works fantastic. Smooth action and clips are snug tight. 5/5

Amazon Customer: Put these pedals on my gravel bike and they work like a charm. I wanted flats on one side for touring/commuting and clip-in on the other for my training rides and gravel days. Very easy to get in and out of. Highly recommend them.

Jim ShortsJim Shorts: My old Shimano hybrid pedals were fairly well worn out after 15,000 miles, and the tool to repair them was about $60 (a shocking amount). So I bought a pair of these EH-500's, and am very pleased with them after 150 miles. They are somewhat lighter than my old pair, and have a nice platform for street shoes if desired. The SPD tension is easily adjustable, and they come with shoe cleats. Good value, good product.

I got these for my transition between road biking - where I've been using SPD pedals for years - and mountain biking where I was finding that I needed/wanted to be clipped in for some thing and unclipped for more difficult terrain.
First, the pedals are top quality. They are incredibly easy to get into and unclip from. They are light and just built well overall. The flat side is not as big as a normal flat MTB pedal though so be aware of that. If this kind of pedal is what you want, you will not be disappointed.
Having said that, I've switched to flat pedals on my MTB. In the end, I got tired of trying to decide whether to use the clip side or the flat side. The clip side is great for that feeling of being solidly connected to the bike but it was holding me back from tackling more and more difficult terrain. The fear of not being able to unclip if I couldn't manage a section was getting in my head and making me not try things. It's too hard to anticipate the proper side in dynamic terrain. Plus, it was too hard to find the right side if you had to start on a hill or some difficult patch.
I switched to regular flat MTB pedals and have been...

Pica Sticks of Doom:
Recently got these for a Giant CX bike, have put a lot of miles into both sides of the pedals over the last couple months, and I really like these pedals.
Riding clipped with the include SH-56 cleats is great. The tension is easy to adjust +/- and at the middle setting I've chosen I don't have any issues with clipping in quickly (even in city riding where there are lots of stops) or with coming unclipped.
The flat side with the included pins is pretty grippy, I ride with soft EVA foam running shoes and have no issues with my feet coming off even on some pretty rocky terrain. With that said if you're a flat shoe MTB racer these aren't the pedals for you (they're not that big a platform), but that's not who they're for anyway. My bike has a 1x SRAM Apex drivetrain meant for riding clipped in, so one thing that will kick my feet off the pedals is shifting to the smallest 1 or 2 rear cogs, but I can't really blame that on the pedals. (Maybe i need to upgrade the crankset!)
Basically it a joy to pedal on either side. At first the pedals flipped over a little too easily but now they tend to mostly stay on whatever side I'm using. Riding around the...
