Lectrichead: My wife and I use these for road biking for ease of getting out of them, yet I have never had them pop out under power so why do I need to buy SPD-L's when these work perfectly for me? I'm not Chris Froome after all.

Easily installed and tightened, never any problems and durable over multi-conditions including mud, road salt, dirt, rain, and sometimes inconsistent cleaning on my part - it's a lot easier to clean the whole bike and forget about the hardware of the pedals. These seems to be beasts when it comes to durability.

Mine have a few scratches from slamming curbs or making a turn too fast and whacking some pavement or other things - bad, I know.

But they hold up perfectly, just as you would expect real Shimano pedals to

They are fairly easy to see how far the threads for adjusting the tension are in or out so they can all be adjusted consistently, though you do have to have a good eye to count the threads or eye them, but that's just to be expected I think.

The black and chrome look nice on pretty much everything and the extra outer part helps getting into them easier I think, but doesn't obstruct your shoe's connection...

Nat M. Zorach: Bought these as my first SPD pedals to use for cyclocross and riding around town after using Look pedals intermittently and not loving them. The major benefit of the SPD pedals is that they work with a wide variety of mountain (MTB) shoes that you can use to walk around while not on the bike, as opposed to Look pedals, where the cleat sticks out and makes walking rather awkward.

These are well-built and are large enough to use without clips, too. Convenient that they are double-sided, but the clips don't get in the way for non-clip shoes (provided you're just doing low-maintenance riding around town-- I would not do mountain biking or competitive cycling with these unless I had the shoes on!).

After putting a few hundred miles on my first pair on my cross bike, I finally replaced my Look pedals on my beater with these, and I'm a fan. My brief complaint is that the tension adjustments can be a bit tricky to figure out, since it seemed a bit unclear what was happening as I was turning the hex key-- it doesn't feel very affirmative and the limits of the tension are a bit unclear. I have noticed that this is a problem with some of the cheaper pedals,...

Karl: These pedals are absolutely amazing!!

A few months ago i got some crankbrother eggbeaters for my hard-tail and let me just say i despised them. I've ridden SPD for a while now but i thought "Hey, i should give those eggbeaters a shot, some people are all about em". MISTAKE!! I thought the little bit of float they give you would be nice, allowing you to feel a little less "locked in" than SPD. Well when trying to get out, the float makes it feel like you might be out but you're not sure. Also the eggbeaters lack a nice platform (I know, i should have gotten the candys if i wanted platforms). Well I hated the eggbeaters and returned them quite swiftly.

These M530 are my "replacement" pedals so i could get rid of that garbage. Lets just say i wish i had found these the first time around. Easily my favorite pedals i've ever ridden! They click in and out just as any other SPD but i love the cage around the spindle. I don't ride with fancy racing shoes that are really stiff, mine are rather soft and malleable, so the cage is nice to give the rest of my foot some support. The cage is also nice to be able to keep the pedal from spinning when trying to click...

Buckorama: I bought these with the Pearl iZUMi Men's X-Alp Enduro III Spinning Shoe, Black/Shadow, so this review is for both items since they go together well. I had never used clipless pedals before, but had used toe-clips and straps. I ride on roads and trails and have an older model Trek mountain bike with hybrid tires. I was a bit hesitant to have my foot attached to the pedal, but a friend recommended that I try going to a clipless pedal. I was pleasantly surprised by how easily I adapted to these. I can get into these pedals easier than my old toe clips. Since they have clips on both sides, the pedal is always "right-side-up." My foot seems to naturally find the right position on the pedal, press down and snap, I'm in. I think the shoe also has something to do with how easily I get into these. The bottom is such that it guides my foot to he right position on the pedal to snap in. Getting out, which was my big worry, is also easy by moving my heel inboard and my foot comes right out... but I have never had them release unintentionally. The motion to release is natural as you come to a stop to dismount, since you tend to point your toe away from the bike toward the...
