Caroline Bailey: I have been a dedicated Dyson fan for years. (3 different models, the heavy as a boulder one and the ball I bought this so we had a lighter weight option for the kids to use, especially for cleaning under couches, This vacuum beats the Dyson hands down when it comes to suction power. As desired it works great for getting under furniture. You can essentially drop the handle down to the floor and get way back under the furniture (in the interest of disclosure, I put new feet on my counches to raise them up to 6 inches. Makes cleaning of any sort easier.) The cord is plenty long. Yes, there are some downsides. It is top heavy and will fall over. Like most vacuums I've had the tools don't want to stay onboard. The combination of tremendous pickup and a small dust cup means you have to dump the cup often. Despite that I still consider this the best vacuum I have every had. I can't count how many times it has been knocked over or how many legos, bandaids, cable ties, screws and whatnot it has sucked up. It was making funny noises this evening and I removed the following from the beater brush assembly: one ziploc bag, a a one inch x 1/4 inch bolt, a safety pin, two zip ties, scraps of...

Garrick Padfoot: The suction and cleaning power is much better than the previous Samsung i had. But i had not vacuumed in a while because of all the long hair on all the carpets everywhere. The self-cleaning brush isn't that great at handling **a lot** of 16" human hair. The roller will get completely filled with hair wrapped around it - and the self-cleaning will simply not be able to handle it all. So it requires the usual of getting a pair of scissors to remove it all.

And the clear cannister will show you how much dust, fur, and hair your old vacuum wasn't getting. Another downside is the small cannister, which will fill up after 4 or 5 swipes. And without a bag: you have to deal with all the dust and hair directly.

My first vacuuming of a living room, hallway, and bedroom with this new powerful vacuum required emptying the cannister at least 12 times. Once you have suffered through that first vacuuming with this powerful vacuum: it will get better.

Pros:

- clear cannister lets you see exactly how much dust/fur/hair is still coming out - so you know when you no longer need to keep going over an area
- the suction is very powerful
- the self-cleaning system...

Amazon Customer: I love this vacuum! Is it top heavy? Yes. Is it awkward to turn on and off? Yes. Do I knock off the accessories hanging on the pipe? Yes. Is it LOUD? YES.
BUT....This thing picks up EVERYTHING!!! With my old shark, I vacuumed, then used a dust mop to pick up the little dirt/dust granules. But when I use this one, my floor feels 100% clean! No missed dust particles! No extra step of sweeping! It stands nicely on it's own, and has a wonderfully LONG cord.
AND...I didn't believe it, but the no tangle hair thing? It really works! On my old shark, I had to stop several times while vacuuming and clean the brush and the front roller thing which would be covered in dog hair (I have 2 golden retrievers), but this one, I can do the whole house and then clean out the few pieces that hung on.
I thought I would like the little hose built onto the top. It's ok, but you lose a LOT of flexibility and hose length, but not a deal killer for me. I also miss the feature of being able to turn the bottom roller on and off, but again, not a deal killer.
Manuevers well, reaches under the bed and chairs easily, and is pretty much self contained.
Great vacuum - you won't regret the purchase!

Deb D: I waited a long time to order this. I've always had canister vaccums so that I could easily switch to bare floor tool since I have vinyl plank flooring with heavy wool area rugs. With this Shark, I can just go from one flooring surface to the other. We have two small dogs and a larger dog. I could vacuum every day and get stuff. But when I vacuumed with this Shark, it was AMAZING what came up. And my rug areas actually look cleaner when I am done. The bare floor performance is excellent, also. The vinyl flooring manufacturer said never use a "beater bar" on the floor. With this new vac, the brush roller at the front really picks up dirt without harming the vinyl plank and I can mop the vinyl plank afterward without having to do anything else. Seems to have excellent suction. Only downsides are the placement of the power switch, which is kind of awkward to reach, and the accessory holder pops on and off the tube too easily, and I have knocked them off several times just moving the vacuum around. It is a bit heavier on the wrist than the old canister vac, and it takes a couple of times to figure out the steering. Only other downside is the dust cup, since it does show you how dirty...

Lady White: I want to ask how current owners of this vacuum lower the suction in order to vacuum area rugs. Shark maintains there is no way to alter the suction, but I hope someone has figured out a way to do it. Here's hoping.

Great vacuum. Only thing missing is a way to lower the suction, for example, for lightweight area rugs.

Nancy: I absolutely LOVE this vacuum! It’s much lighter than our other (popular, high-quality, name-brand) vacuum. It’s a very solidly-built machine; good quality, worth the investment.
It does a great job, especially due to the fluffy roller at the front that, in effect, dusts the floor.
It’s easy to steer & to empty. Great that the HEPA filters are washable; more environmentally-friendly.
I also love the headlights, they make cleaning (almost!) fun!!! Vacuuming in the dark, so cool! The headlights make those dust bunnies easy to see!
Taking the top portion off to use it as a hand-held takes a bit of practice.
I’ve been vacuuming more frequently since purchasing this vacuum; happy ME & happy Hubby = happy (& cleaner!) life!

fishface42: Excellent in suction and roller brushes and cleaning power. But not everyone can maneuver it comfortably. Requires some strength to deal with heavy top mounted mechanism. Also brush area not fixed: swivels when used, which has utility but takes some dexterity and getting used to. Narrower brush width means it gets into places upright can't fit. Fine for strong person but not for the feeble.

Brent Duncan: Compared many vacuum reviews and if you don't want to shell.out 1000+ for a Dyson, this is the vacuum to get.
You can feel it suck down onto the carpet and its almost disgusting how much more it sucks out than our previous vacuum.
Made me realize how much dust and dirt we don't see.
Refluffed my stairs where all the traffic has flattened the carpet.
The wife was amazed when she came down the stairs as they looked like new again.
Great vacuum, a little heavy working thw stairs as it needs two hands to support it in two spots to maneuver, but it beats our upright and canister for ease of cleaning the stairs even with the concern.
Cleans hardwood great and doesn't push around the small stuff, it actually sucks it up first go.
No more over two or three times on the floor to get it picked up.
Well worth the money.

Kedra M. van Putten: From the first time I hit the power button, I was in love with this vacuum. The suction power is excellent. I have two cats, one of them is long-haired causing little fur ball tumbleweed to accumulate around the house. What I love is the vac only needs to enter the vicinity of these fur balls to get sucked in which is great because I can’t see them all.

This machine is corded and the length of the cord is good. I can cover a lot area in one session which is a leg up over cordless vacs. I hope they don’t change that.

The maneuverability is good but not great. It’s a little awkward at first and requires steering with the wrist. This can be difficult with most of the weight up at the top. It fits nicely under most furniture and between the legs of tables and chairs reducing the need to move furniture out of the way. One thumb up.

The greatest design flaw, in my opinion, is the length of the hose is too short when using in canister mode. If I am vacuuming something above hip height (for me not high at all) I have to lift the canister with the end of the hose. This can get tiresome, awkward, and uncomfortable working both arms and if you lift the canister in...
