Has a suction adjustment and we had to turn it down. Used it on a clean area run and it pulled out dust and dirt - which is great. It is a little bulky and not super easy to maneuver. The cord length is great, but I miss not having a retractable cord. I gave it four stars. I would say five for how powerful it is, but three for how bulky it is. It is a fair price for as highly as it is rated on C onsumer R eports.

Kathleen: I don't write many reviews, but because I read them faithfully and make decisions based on them, decided some products deserve one. I bought this Shark over a year ago, so feel as though I've given it a good workout. I have owned everything from Sears to Electrolux to Hoover and none of them are as good as this one. It's lightweight, powerful and easy to use. It's super convenient to remove the attachments, everything snaps back in place with ease and the lift-off compartment slips off with one push of a button and makes vacuuming under the furniture a breeze. The debris container is easy to remove, too, and I like being able to keep it, along with the filters, clean. But, the best part is that it sucks up dust and dirt better than any vacuum we've owned. It works great on edges and floors as well as it does carpeting, using the power head feature. This is the second Shark we've owned. The other is at our other home. It's a good one, too, but this newer version is an improvement. The only concern I have is the on-and-off switch which feels like it may be getting lose. I highly recommend this model.

Carl: First time with a Shark vacuum cleaner. Had for several months now, so I think this might add a little more perspective. Vacuum power is tremendous. The dirt box will make you cringe to think you had that much stuff on your floors. All the hoses including the power cord are too short. Don't think that if you want to use the attachments including short and long wands, they will will fill the bill. Everything is attached to the vacuum power which you would expect. But you end up dragging most of the machine around around behind you trying to fit the attachment into the drawer or under the sofa. Great vacuum draw if you can use it. Switch from carpet to bare floor is easy to use. The main support wheels are in the back for balance. But as a tripod, it is not easy to point the entire unit in the direction you want. More trouble than I thought it would be.

Nicholas Goletz: OK – I have tried to like this vacuum cleaner. This particular model was recommended by Consumer Reports, and it has a lot going for it, primarily the suction – which is so strong that you’d best take care around pets and small children. It swivels its head like a hungry praying mantis (that’s a good thing). Plus, it is purple! However, that amazing suction is also a problem. I have new, thick carpet that I have trouble vacuuming, and thin, short area rugs that this vacuum will not accommodate. I know, I know, there is a lever with which the strength of the suction can be controlled. I have yet, after hours of vacuuming, found a combination of hard wood/carpet and min/max suction that works for me and my flooring. (It works great on hard wood floors, and great on my 20-year old worn-down carpet.) Although my scale says this vacuum is only 14.2 pounds, it feels a lot heavier when you are rolling it back and forth. (Maybe that dang suction again?) There is a lot of vibration in the handle so that my hand numbs when vacuuming. (I believe I have carpel tunnel, but my hand was not affected when using my former vacuum.) The clear dust cup is super cool (you can see just how...

Emily: The vacuum worked great for the first 6 months then the motor just died. Not very reliable.
**Update: After letting it rest for 24 hours, it started to work again so it probably shutdown to protect from overheating. I went from 2 to 4 stars because the problem resolved itself. I am knocking one star offbecause it does seem to clog easily leading to the overheating problem that I just didn't have with my old Dyson Animal.
Other than that issue, it cleans VERY well and I Iove the maneuverability.
