The illustrations in this volume are all new, which makes it instantly worth having as you will not see this quality and persecutive of photography in any other publication on the work of this artist. The history of the artist and his work is brilliantly presented and researched: this is a treasure trove of information.The volume is beautifully made and organised so that it functions as a wonderful biography and as a catalogue of a complete retrospective of the art of Caravaggio. As a book, it is a tribute to the 40th anniversary of Taschen.

PA Leech: Printing images across two pages in a book that doesn't display those pages flat is a waste of everyone's time. You can't get a good view of anything when it's distorted in the middle.

Everything else is up to Taschen's usual standard, but foldouts would have been much better.

Marcos Amorim: Obra com capa belíssima, veio em caixa protetora, sem qualquer dano ou amasso. Obra primorosa sobre Caravaggio, feita por um dos maiores especialistas do mundo das obras do artista, recomendo aos amantes da arte! O tamanho da obra é enorme e me impressionou a vivacidade e os diversos tons da impressão colorida das pinturas do artista, tanto grandes, como pequenas. Não deixe de tê-la um dia, em um inglês acessível!!

Ryan Vincent: This book is visually very pretty and well assembled... And the biographical information that I've thumbed through so far seems interesting and has made me want to read it which I don't always feel that way about some artist coffee table books
They have nice blowups of scenes from Caravaggio's work...
But I'm a little torn on the book's overall size.. it was a little smaller than I expected it to be. I feel like if you want a biography on Caravaggio alongside his work that is easier to hold and read, this book is prob a good choice for you versus a true coffee table sized book.
If you're looking for a larger sized coffee table volume that really shows off his works as a whole, this might not be it.

Phyllis: He estado coleccionando libros de arte de TASCHEN durante más de 20 años y este libro, este libro, es uno de los MEJORES. Ojalá hubiera sabido de este libro excepcional antes. Acaba de llegar, por lo que no he tenido tiempo de sentarme y leerlo, pero ¡ay! . . hay tantas imágenes que se han ampliado para ver todos los detalles en la obra de Caravaggio. He pasado las últimas dos horas repasando página tras página de imágenes increíbles. Y para acentuar el uso dramático del claroscuro por parte de Caravaggio, los editores de este libro incluyeron muchas páginas muy oscuras en relieve en oro. Bellisimo. Todavía no puedo creer que pagué solo 50 euros por este libro. Estoy super contenta con este compra. Muy recomendable!
