Jeff B.: Would recommend this as one of the better submarine stories I've read recently. Action, of course, but combined with personal insights into each of the main characters as well as what appears to be a good knowledge of
Submarine technology and warfare techniques

R. A Chinn: I think that submarine action novels risk being formulaic, and i think this is a major weakness of the genre. Torpedo ops require precise, and unequivocal language at the conn, but this makes for reading endless cut and paste. Maybe there is a way to make this less repetitive... I think that Red October managed to overcome tjis.
Next is Chris Coe, the captain, a micromanager. While he appears to let the crew do their jobs, mostly he leaves no room for individual initiative. You will do it my way, and there is no place for your opinion. Upper management reminds him that perhaps his command would run smoother if he relented, but his mental framework turns this into conflict.
Spoiler alert: there is resolution at the end, and the XO gets his chance.
I don't think i will read the other books in the series.

Moose in NZ: The characters made this engaging. Too often 'war stories' disappoint. I was a sapper so know nothing of submarine warfare, but it felt plausible and tense throughout. Will try another in the sequence

G. Hanson: The first book I have read in this series and this is one book loaded with undersea warfare nearly from start to finish. There are also just the right amount of technical additions to describe certain equipment and scenes. For Clancy fans this book is about as close as you'll get to his original works and I have looked high and low.
I am not familiar with this author nor if he has a practice of using the same characters in other books, like the going on 128 years old Jack Ryan. I only say that because in my mind the CO is not a likable guy at all and his character and traits could grow old very fast. I actually found him to be almost cartoonish but thankfully there was so much else going on that you didn't have to dwell on it.

PB: Well written without too much of the technical jargon that clutters some naval stories. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.

r turner: First time I’ve read this author and got to say this was one of the best submarine books I’ve read and I’ve read a few. What I liked about it was how the author managed to capture the intensity of the subject and didn’t feel the need to try and introduce some female characters and love interests of the submariners just for the sake of it. Can’t wait to try another of his books

Robert Hrzic: This is one of my three favourite WW3 series and I'm glad that we finally get to see fighting in the Pacific. I loved the battles against the Chinese navy and seeing some naval warfare. It would have only been better if it had involved that battle for Guam.
