william morey: I bought this to replace a Marineland . This filter has much more flow. The nefia basket is huge. Many complaints about noise level, but just keep water level up and you will be fine. Think the price was in line with other hang on back filters.

Heather Bouwens: I have had many hob filters and most are trash. I was a hard-core aquaclear fan until I had the filter get bunged up-and I didn't know it was that bad-so it began to overflow and drain my aquarium onto my carpet! It happened twice in a week and I ordered the Cadillac of filters (tidal) to replace them because I was done!

Tidal filters are the first filters I have used that actually work like an aquarist would hope and dream. Things that impressed me greatly:

- The lid turn into a tray for maintenance and its do cleverly designed that it actually seats in the lid so it doesn't tip over.

- You can remove the entire filter insert so you can load it with floss and biomedia at you leisure, not bending over a giant fishtank.

- You can lock that filter insert in so it doesn't fail like the aquaclear that ejects its own media when clogged.

- The heater sleeve is smartly placed.

- Easy to clean, because of stated reasons above.

- variable flow, can be extremely calm or a turbulent depending on how you set it.

- The design of the lip of the filter dampens the impact of the water so it doesn't splash.

- It's seriously quiet, the...

Corey: Love all the features and how it self primes. Purchased 2 different sizes and both have held up well.

Traveller: I have a large canister on my tank, but it gets dirty far too quickly, so I bought this little guy to do some quicker less painful maintenance and hopefully extend my canister filter cleaning cycle.

The filter is priced right; easy to setup and seems easy to maintain. It looks cheaply made though and I read that the impellers don't last, so I bought some spares. The filter foam is far too small for a 110 tank and they only give you half a bag of biomedia. I replaced the media with a full bag of Biohome. I may see if adding additional foam is feasible. The flow is also not as good as my older AQ HOB filters, but the fish seem to be enjoying the additional flow, so we'll see how the maintenance cycle goes

Adam Fox: Seller got it sent out straight away, arrived sooner than was expected, packaged perfectly. As for the filter itself it’s huge and just what I was looking for!

Tylicia T.: I can’t say enough over these filters! You can add media galore of your own desire as well what’s supplied with the purchase! Cleaning them is easy! The pump is super silent! If the water level is too low the skimmer can get noisy but if that’s the situation either turn it off via the blue mob on the bottom near the intake tube or raise the water level! There’s a reason it does that just as any skimmer would indicate as that’s air going into it instead of water! That aside I used many filters such as aqua-clear & those are also nice filters but I find the seachem is much tougher over the brittle plastic of the aqua-clear! These jobs cleans my 100 gallon tanks amazingly! I tend to over filter tho as I use more than one filter but alone this pump would still suffice in a non overpopulated tank! It’s large black & yet the area where the water returns is slim! So most of it will be outside the tank! Do measure the back between your tank & wall or place it on the side! I have one of these on my rimless tank as the level screw level is very versatile for a small gap to level to a larger extension to level as the screw comes out at least a few inches! Or totally...

Charles Bland: The filter performs exactly as expected. There are a lot of YouTube reviews talking about the water bypass of the internal basket. This is mostly true. You can not stuff this thing full of polyfil or fine sponge like filtration. I didn’t use the factory very corse sponge as I run a medium to corse prefilter on my filters. Instead I placed a medium density pad in the bottom in place of the factory foam using it as a template. I then place a fine layer of polyfil on top then cramed as much matrix and pond matrix (as it’s what I had been running in another filter in same tank and was already seeded with bacteria otherwise I’d have filled with just regular matrix media) I got roughly 1.5k of pond matrix and 1.5k of matrix stuffed in there. And I do mean stuffed as the top of the filter bags are slightly above the water level in the filter.

When you set this up you need to play around with a few different setups at first to find a happy medium. If you pack the filter full or use a lot of fine filtering sponge you will not be able to run the flow at max as the water will backup around the basket then flow over the back of it creating bypass. What I’ve done is leave the...

Arakeen: About a year ago I re-entered the aquarium hobby after being "dry" for 15 years. And I've been looking for a powered filter to use on my 125 gallon aquarium. I have been using ATI sponge filters, which are superb biological filters, however, they're poor mechanical filters and have no chemical filtration ability whatsoever. In the past I have used AquaClears and Fluval canisters, and I seriously considered a canister filter, but there seems to be too much hit and miss in QC and after going through two canister returns with amazon, I decided to go with a simple HOB. I narrowed my choices to the tried and true AC110 and the newcomer, SC Tidal 110 to compare side by side.

The Tidal overall looks and feels like quality. The plastic is durable with some flexibility, like stiff Rubbermaid material. And I really like the internal basket design, its very easy to lift out of the filter while holding the contents, and the filter top cover doubles as a tray for holding the internal basket so it keeps water spill to a minimum, very cool idea. The AC plastic is chintzy and has cheapened further since I last used them. It appears very fragile and parts came broken in the box, though...
