Schwinn Wayfarer Hybrid Bike: Retro-Styled Cruiser for Adults

Brenda L Hess: First things first; the color is a very pale mint green. It is not aqua but I don’t see it as sage green. My delivery was excellent and the box not the bike were damaged. My husband who assembled it would say it was easy. He had it put together in under 2 hours and it was perfect! He trued the wheels just right.
This bicycle is the perfect size for most women. The seat is not the most comfortable so a large saddle seat would be a nice upgrade purchase. On my first ride out, the bicycle performed perfect. No problems with shifting, steering, wobbling, and it stops on a dime.

BertSampson: I bought this bike in December 2015 (nearly 8 years now) and have used it on and off since, but mainly my dad, now in his old, age uses it. The main issue I had with the bike was the front wheel to handlebar connection coming loose no matter how much I tightened the bolt. There needs to be some loctite used to keep it in place and keep you safe. I can’t stress this enough because I’ve nearly had some bad falls front the handlebars losing alignment or the handlebars went loose during a long trip causing me to take things slow out of precaution. Other than this the bike is great for casual or cruise rides. You won’t go very fast but you’ll be comfortable.

A minor caveat is that removing and replacing the front wheel for transportation in my car can get annoying because the fender might get shifted and I might have to realign the brake pads. I plainly prefer not to pack this bike at all because of the hassle of reassembly.

Overall the bike was a great value at $180 for black Friday in 2015! Back then I was kind of broke so it was perfect for me. If I was going to buy something similar today I would probably go for a hybrid with disc brakes and no fenders. I...

Eric Roberts: I ordered the 18” frame 16” wasn’t available I figured since I was 6ft pretty average height it would be fine, not really. I’m 53 yrs old can’t move as good as I use to it’s a little hard for me to throw my leg over. I have the seat all the way down and still am on my tip toes to scoot myself on the seat. The bicycle itself is really nice and pretty easy to assemble with simple deductive reasoning, they sent a quick connect on the front tire which was something new to me but I figured it out. I have rode it for the first time today which has been probably 35 years or so since I rode a bike. It’s really comfortable I am not hunched over, it’s an upright ride and my legs do get a workout. I am pleased with the purchased just wish it was a little shorter, maybe I can talk my 6’5” son into buying off me and order a slightly smaller bike, if not I will make due and maybe get more flexible getting on and off the bike.

Patrick Foley: I would first like to point out that this bike came from the Amazon warehouse, and presented a great
bargain over a full price new bike . I ordered this bike on Jan. 8, 2023, and it came on Jan. 12th.
The box was in good shape, with only 2 small holes in the sides. Upon opening the box, I found everything
still wrapped as it was originally, and no problems were visible. When I began assembling the bike I noticed
that one of the adjustment screws on the rear brake caliper was broken away. this bike has linear pull brake
calipers. I went ahead and completed the assembly of the bike . Every thing needed to assemble the bike was in the box; no missing parts or components. there were a couple of small dings on the front fender, and a rub mark on the rear of the back fender, which will polish out. the small dents are barely visible.
I placed a call to Pacific Cycle and explained the problem with the rear brake to the agent on the phone .
this was Jan. 17. I had a replacement brake caliper by the 20th, and installed it this morning ( jan.22).
After a brief shakedown ride , I rechecked all adjustments an the bike is good to go.

A quiet fan: I wasn't sure about buying the bike online but it was $200 cheaper than other options and I was drunk when placing the order. I owned another similar Schwinn 6 years ago.

The bike was easy to assemble. If you ever worked on your bicycles as a kid, this is a 20 minute job. It comes pre-assembled. You need to install the front wheel (and guard), handlebar, seat and pedals. You will only need one Allen wrench, one adjustable wrench and one Phillips screwdriver. No need for special tools. The spokes are well installed. The bike was missing just one screw. I did not lose it. I looked everywhere. 50 cents.

The pedals are awful. You will need to get a new set. Add $40.

I am 5' 7" with fairly long legs and the bike was an inch or two too tall. I can ride it but I may not be as comfortable as I wished.

I'll keep it. If not for the missing screw and pedals, I would give it 4 stars. You won't find something as good for $500 at Canadian Tire but you don't need something like it to do the job ( little summer rides and occasionally a supermarket trip).

My name here: A couple months after buying this, I crashed it on the side of the road. The bike was fine and I had no issues with it later on. You will need some allen wrenches for assembly, which are not included, so keep that in mind. If I have one major criticism, it’s that the steel frame makes it a fair bit heavier than other bikes this size, so don’t expect to win any races with this, but that might actually be a plus when it comes to exercise.

Ian Redekop: The bike came in seemingly good shape nothing obviously broken or damaged and went together pretty easily. The end front fender cracked sometime during the first ride. Not sure exactly how as I didn't crash or hit anything.

Have been using this as a commuting bike and noticed that it seemed like there was a gear missing ie. I could only shift up or down six times in a row not seven. Took it to a bike mechanic and they said that it kept skipping one gear. They did fix it but frustrating that it wasn't good to go after original assembly.

Am happy with the bike and would give it five stars if the issues above hadn't happened.

Stephanie Seagrove: The bike is cute and a pretty easy ride for around town. It’s not for hard terrain but that’s not why I bought this bike. The seat is not comfortable and I’ll likely replace that . Overall it’s a good bike and I’m pleased with my purchase.

SA: I've rode this for about 30km now. It arrived well packed and undamaged. Previous comments about damage on arrival is likely due to the shipping/courier company mishandling it.
Out of the box it was easy to put together. The only issue is the derailleur has a slight twist in it, making adjustments difficult. The derailleur itself is Shamano, not Schwinn like others have had issues with. One other negative I would say would be the right handle grip. It's shorter than the left or standard ones, so I would guess it would be difficult to replace. The shifter itself is a bit clunky, but it doesn't bother me.
The bike overall rides great. I'm happy with the gear ratio for what I require. Would be nice if the seat had more cushion. Looks sharp with the black and chrome. Overall I would recommend it.
