Picasso's Mom: Well written and very entertaining. Unusual story but totally true. It was an easy read with lots of good feels!

Kristy Franklin: This book made me want to go out and get my own donkey. It's a book about community, love, tenacity, and respect for all creatures all with a sort of punk rock slant. Absolutely the best book I've read in the last decade.

M. S. O.: This story is so amazing and unique. As a runner, I greatly appreciate reading about others' challenges, especially if they are nothing like my own. It gives me perspective. This story is very fun to read, the author does a great job at keeping the story lighthearted, and the entire situation just seems to crazy to be true. You won't regret reading it.

Kindle Customer: Running with Sherman is a fun, heartwarming story with extra knowledge sprinkled in. We learn about a family who moves out to the countryside, and takes in unwanted animals. One of those lucky critters happens to be Sherman, the donkey who needs a purpose, and how the author and his family help to make their dreams for Sherman come true. Along the way, we learn about living and being assisted by kind Amish neighbors; depression and how adrenaline can play a part, as well as animals being part of the solution; and so much more! Most exciting for me, we learn about donkey/burro racing, both the history and how it's done today, as well as preparing for such a run. Sherman and his friends, both animal and human, provide a funny and good-willed cast of characters that kept me reading to the end. I'll have to check out some more McDougall books...

woodstockwayne: Not only a heart warming (initially, heart breaking) tale of triumph over adversity, but a fascinating account of the author's lifestyle, friends, and neighbours (including the local Amish community). A wonderful, wonderful book - chicken soup for the soul (or mushroom if you're not a meat eater).

Kindle Customer: Really enjoyed the book. So unusual that someone takes an interest and liking to a donkey... inspiring... learning to read the animal and taking cues from em. A real talent. Thanks for the education. And in so many areas. ie treatment of depression- exercise! Makes sense. I always feel better after a walk or good physical labor.

DJ and Vanessa Levy: Running with Sherman came up as recommendation from Amazon on my feed, and the name and cover page caught my attention right away. I usually read books on business and advertising, so I didn't really know what to expect, but downloaded it to my Kindle on vacation in Hawaii.
This was by far one of my favorite reads this year! Words cannot express how much I enjoyed hearing about Sherman, burro racing, and Chris McDougall's adventures. Chris also did an awesome job of tying in so many different topics, from psychology, to autism, and Amish running teams into the plot. I never knew if I was going to laugh, smile, or cry when I flipped to the next page.
I highly recommend reading this book!

Amazon Customer: A Must-Read if You Want to Understand Donkeys - and People. I've messed with mules and horses for years and what MacDougall writes in Running With Sherman is spot on - from how you can't force a donkey to do anything to the importance of tuning into what they're trying to communicate. I especially enjoyed MacDougall's tone of voice - funny, factual and clever, but especially kind with none of the self-centered drama around which so many books are built these days. A terrific read for anyone that enjoys a great yarn, animals, learning about the Amish and a good laugh. Highly recommended!
