Roll-On Natural Deodorant with Real Purity

Vaughanabe13: This is a non-toxic anti-perspirant that actually works. The joke is that people who wear "natural deoderant" always smell bad, but I think this one is the exception rather than the rule.

The key for me with this one vs. all the other "natural" options is that this one is actually an anti-perspirant and not just a deodorant. I personally can't stand the dripping sensation I get when wearing a standard deoderant, and I hate pit stains. This has neither. I apply this one time in the morning and then all day I literally never feel any moisture in my pits, no matter how hot and sweaty I get or how much exercise I do during the day.

So then the question is does it actually block odors? I have had multiple friends and family smell me and they all say that I smell good and don't have any BO, and I can't smell it on myself, so I have to believe it really works.

If I had any downsides I would say I don't love that it's unscented, because it just smells like...nothing. That might be a plus for you depending on your preferences. ERH: this was recommended, and thought I'd give it a try, so glad I did. NO fragrance dries quickly, and it works.
It is aluminum free, and gentle. If you're looking for something that works, this is it.

Caitlin: I spent about 3 years trying to find a "natural" deodorant so I wouldn't have to worry about the aluminum content, but the thing is, I'm a sweaty gal and I work as a server. No one wants a stinky armpit in their face when they're at dinner. Native, Schmidt, and a bunch of boutique options in super-cute packaging—I tried them all, and after about 3 hours of service, I needed to reapply. I'm aware of the difference between antiperspirant and deodorant, but I needed to reapply for smell reasons. All this to say, Real Purity is the only natural deodorant I've tried that actually does the trick. I sweat noticeably less than usual, and one application in the morning keeps me fresh all day, with few exceptions (like an intense hike or something). Sweaty girls, this one could be for you.

A.F.: I've been trying to get myself off of aluminum-based antiperspirant/deodorant for years. I tried a bunch of brands (like Native), but they didn't work, at all. But, Secret is toxic, I know it is, so I finally went with this stuff, despite the price. I'm about a week in, and I'm pleasantly surprised. It goes on wet, but it doesn't leave any residue on your clothes (it's clear), so I've been able to put clothes on over it without a problem. It's better to let it dry a bit before putting on clothes, but it's no big deal if you are in a hurry in the morning (as I often am). It definitely feels different from Secret or the mainstream brands--it's less powdery/soft, so you'll notice less smoothness when your arms rub together. I got used to that. The important thing is that it has a very mild, non-annoying scent and I don't smell bad, even after wearing it all day. I don't sweat much naturally, and it's fall right now, so I'm not sure if it will be strong enough to withstand California summer (I may need to go back to the toxic stuff that blocks sweat on triple-digit days), but I'm very pleased with this, as a (more) natural and (less) toxic alternative.

Koala: I have tried many deodorants throughout my years of getting what I call armpit itches and redness. For the last 10 years, I can use a new deodorant until within weeks it will give me the red rash and constant itching of my armpit that drives me crazy. The one deodorant that I loved with an almond scent was discontinued on Amazon. I had to find something else so I tried several that I bought at local stores. All of them I had to discontinue because of the itching. I saw this deodorant on Amazon and decided to give it a try.I'm now on my second bottle with no problems. The scent isn't as wonderful as the almond one I was using. This one actually has very little scent, but it controls the redness and itching and it controls armpit odor. I use it twice a day - in the AM and the PM after my shower. I was so glad to find something that worked and even though it is a little pricey, it is worth it to me.

Ms. Vicky Gouldbourn: It works OK but the bottle and ball design is very poor, for example, when shaking it up, the product splashes out from the sides of the rollerball. In addition, when rolling it over the underarm, the product gathers all over the neck of the bottle, suggesting there needs to be a redesign

JMC: I almost never leave Amazon reviews but the world needs to know…this stuff is INCREDIBLE. It lasts ages, and I personally love the subtle herbal smell. Best of all, it doesn’t even claim to be an antiperspirant but in my experience it definitely is.

I have been using Real Purity for over two years now after making the switch from the standard drug-store stuff. Recently, I was convinced to try another “natural” brand based on a friend’s recommendation. In the few days I was using this *other* stuff, my body odor came back with a vengeance and I was suddenly sweating more than I had in years. I switched back to Real Purity, and suddenly I’m dry and fresh again.

Yes, it’s expensive. But boy is it worth every penny.

Amazon_Jedi: *Update* the Original roll-on simply stopped working. I bought a second one which was great for about a week, then that just stopped working too. Product refused to come out of the roller tip. I tried everything but to no avail. Needless to say I did not buy a third one! Such a shame as this isn’t a cheap product and I expected more. Sigh.

*original review before update above * Like many, I’m attempting to go more natural. The thought of clogging my armpits with aluminium leaves me cold (and somewhat horrified). I’ve tried a few natural deodorant formulas and none of them ward off the smell of sweat. I don’t mind a slight whiff of B.O. personally, but not everyone is as accepting as me!
This roll-on is pretty special. I use it just after my shower in the morning and give it about 10 minutes to air dry. It seems to work all day and even stands up to the exercise test! On a side note, my armpits have become lighter since switching to natural (or should I say reverted back to their natural state, now that I am not using a synthetic deodorant). It also has a pleasant smell.

V. S.: After talking with a friend I found out that body odour is not caused by sweating itself, but by the bacteria on the surface of your skin reacting with sweat. Looking into it more I found out:

Anti-persiperants work by effectively clogging pores in your armpits (with aluminium) to reduce your sweating and the amount of bacteria that interacts with it, which doesn't sound great, especially as its blocking a natural process for the body to get rid of toxins as well as cool down.

Skin in the armpit is some of the thinest skin on the body, so ideal for absorption

Women who are recovering from breast cancer are advised not to use under-arm care that contains alumimium (and parabens)

The yellow stains I would eventually get on my work shirts are not baked in sweat, but traces of aluminium left over from the anti-perispreant.

It's advisable to use underarm care before going to bed.

Armed with this I did look around at a lot of natural deodorants that wouldn't block sweat and that did not contain alminium and parabens. After trying at least 10 different ones, which either ranged from being ineffective and left me smelling myself before the end of...
