Patrick M Ickes: We got this for a 'showerhouse' that we built in the woods for our friends that come and camp with us for bluegrass "pickin' parties". It was enough to provide hot water for 2 showers and two other sinks in this showerhouse. We have moved and are building another such building and will get another one of these.
(Note, I don't think I'd like 'on-demand' water heating for my home because it drives me crazy to think it comes on when I turn the water on for just a bit to rinse something, but that hot water doesn't have time to reach me. I'd have to get used to doing those sorts of things with cold water only if that continued to bother me). But for this sort of intermittent use of the showerhouse, I love it.

whatever: Buy it. We have a much bigger rannai on primary residence and it is 12 years old and I've never serviced/flushed it as advised. We (2 teenagers me and wife) have had zero issues and the gals take lots of long showers, shave or whatever. Bought this one for a weekend tiny house/Park model RV/trailer. Much smaller capacity than my primary residence unit but happy to see it was the same quality, basic physical size and function . Just hook up 120v to unit for the ignighter, plumb in your gas and water lines and fire it up. Runs shower, kitchen faucet and bath faucet all on full hot with 115 deg water with no issue. Only have 3 fixtures so not sure how many more it could handle. Factory preset to 115 deg but changeable with dip switches to hotter or cooler. Came very securely packed. I installed service valves but will likely never service it. If I can get 12 plus years out of it without paying it any attention I'm happy. Doesn't come with a temperature controller but in 12 years we've only touched the one on my other unit when we moved it to paint the wall. We keep it set to 115 or maybe 120 default to be safe for any kids. That's too hot to hold your hand under anyway so never had a...

FL-ReviewerFL-Reviewer: We installed this on a shipping container Tiny Home. The pipe fittings were tight and well made. The installation confusion centers around the electrical connections. First, the rubber grommet where the power wires exits the unit obviously does not meet code fo an external application and the grey plastic fitting does not match any PVC thread size. Secondly, the wires themselves are only 20 gauge. These do not seem to meet any code out there however after much searching of the internet, it seems that even professional electricians just wire up to it. We connected 12 gauge wire with wire nuts inside the cabinet and called it a day. The electric connections are supposedly only used for the LED display and the spark that lights the flame so we assume that gauge internal wire is ok. As for the PVC connection, we saw varied approaches to try for a water tight connection and we came up with using a 1/2" Schedule 40 female threaded connector pvc glued into their plastic connector. This connects to Liquidtite connectors and from there using those connectors and pipe into the container. This is the best water tight installation we could come up with that meets code.
Lastly, it...

Steve MaringSteve Maring: We got an external propane unit. Its currently fed by (2) 100 lbs tanks with room to add on a couple more tanks on the manifold. We are also feeding a new propane range off this system. No mention is ever made in the instructions about the threading where the electric connection is supposed to come in. It turns that this threading matches the threading of the lock nut on a 1/2 inch flex conduit adapter. I ended up cutting some plastic away from the inside of this receiver on the water heater so that I could fully shove the 1/2 flex conduit inside. I wrapped some electrical tape around the flex conduit so the 1/2 locking nut had something to hold the conduit inside and then put some 1-1/2" heat shrink all around the outside for added strength. Its a hack, but its well sealed and not going anywhere. I put an elbow below the gas entry instead of a tee with a trap for debris like you're supposed to. I may fix this later. We're very happy with the install thus far and anxious to see how long we last on just these (2) 100 lbs tanks. We were even happier about this install after we saw how nasty the water in the electric heater was. This sort of install is definitely not for the...
