We put everything and I do mean everything in this and drove safely to and from our trip with no issues. We were even able to fit a walker in it. We attached it with no racks on top of a small compact car.

Matthew nikolopoulos: Only used it for one trip so far but it's perfect for storing clothing/linens/anything relatively soft - made alot of room inside the car for the more perishable/ridged items. Highly recommend!

Kim: This does what it needs to do. We use this when we go camping/to the cottage. We use it mostly for suitcases, pillows, sleeping bags, etc. It's a great way to store the bulkier items without taking up precious trunk space. It keeps our stuff safe and dry. And best part is that it stores easily without Taking up the space of a traditional roof cargo box. Worth it!

ChasingTrailChasingTrail: This has now been on two trips, each about 800 miles round trip. We LOVE it! It is absolutely shocking how much it holds! I'm able to easily fit a large 27-gallon bin, two standard Samsonite carryon suitcases, a couple of smaller weekender-type bags, and several throw blankets, beach towels, and pillows.
We bought this for road trips (primarily camping and to Southern California from Phoenix area). We have two kids still in car seats and a medium-sized dog. The primary reason we wanted something like this is that we drive two different SUVs fairly equally. This makes way more sense than a pricey investment into a fixed roof rack setup for just one vehicle. Although we CAN fit everything in, we would prefer to have a little more space inside.
One of our vehicles has roof rails, one doesn't. Installation is an absolute breeze both ways and the storage bag stays nicely secured. Whenever we travel with it, we're traveling on AZ and CA highways anywhere from 65-85 mph, so we do experience some minor sliding back, but we just make some adjustments at routine stops.
I noticed some people said they were concerned with the lack of security on this. Our thoughts are...

Ivy: Imagine having all your Christmas presents wrapped and ready to go and realizing that in a couple of weeks, all those blessed gifts plus 3 adults and ALL their winter luggage need to fit into a 2005 Lexus RX330 to make a trip over the Sierras for the holidays. Realization hits that even being the best of packers all this stuff will not fit inside the car. Quick, do thorough search on car top carriers and pray its delivered in time to use!
After reading countless reviews on many soft top carriers, one thing was crystal clear -- WATERPROOF was not optional!
Rightline was one of the highest rated carriers and man, did their product deliver! Outstanding craftsmanship and durability! We encountered wind and rain on this trip. Everything in carrier remained completely dry. It is very important to follow the instructions on positioning the carrier correctly and securing the flaps over the zipper as well as filling it to capacity. We used a non-slip roof mat to ensure our car top would not get scratched! In our opinion this is not optional if you do not want to end up with scratches!!! To position bag correctly between our rooftop side rails, the mat and bag will partially cover the...

IzzyP: After reading many many reviews, we decided to give this a try, as hard top carriers are very expensive. We filled it as full as we could, using blankets etc. to fill the corners. All was fine until we hit about 80 km/hour, then a "whap whap whap" flapping/banging noise started. We stopped the car, rearranged the contents, and away we went. Again, at about 80 km/hour, "whap whap whap".
Took us three of our four hour drive to figure out what was wrong. Third stop we finally took the Non Skid Roof Pad (which we had forgotten to put underneath) and packed it under the front of the bag - what was happening was the front bag was bouncing up and down due to wind, and was hitting the roof of the car. Once we shoved the roof pad under it to "stuff" the space, the noise stopped. Thankfully, as I was ready to toss the thing in the trash.
This thing fits a lot of stuff in it though, it worked great for our camping trip!
On the way back (four hour drive) we did the same thing and it was great. No noise! So, just be aware that you'll have to make sure it's snug against the roof, or put something underneath it.

Mark Murphy: First - thank you Amazon. You made the search for this product easy. I AM FOR SURE very pleased with this purchase. We have a 2009 Nissan Sentra and a LOT of camping equipment (let's just say its a portable cottage). After downsizing from an SUV which we packed to the hilt to go on our annual trip almost 300 kms away, we chose to invest in this instead of renting a car. I had researched by visiting camping supply stores, auto stores, Wal-Mart and its competitors. We did not want one of the hard carriers as we do not have the space to store when not in use. We do not have a roof rack - just a normal flat top car. The reviews on some of the other Car Top Carriers I had seen in store were not great. The CCM one which seemed similar, and more than half the cost was horrible. I took a chance on purchasing this one with the intention that if it didn't work to rent a car and then return this upon our arrival back from camping.
To our greatest pleasure this product exceeded every expectation. I chose this particular one based on reading a review that someone else had said it worked for a car of a moderate size as mine. Although, the description of the version down from this...
