HGay: Like other reviewers have said, this is water resistant, not water proof. But if you know that going in, And you don't want to spend the money on a hard shell, this is a great option.
We took this camping about 2 hours away on a Subaru Outback. Going there, we had to stop and adjust the straps because they were incredibly noisy on the interstate. But that was just trial and error on our part.
Coming home we drove through torrential rain, stopping for about an hour in the worst of it.
So through 3 hours of heavy rain, the sleeping bags on the edges were damp but not soaked.
I'd make this purchase again and work around it it not being water-tight to avoid paying for and storing a hardshell.

spongemonkey: I have now had this car bag for over 4 years and it is still going strong! I only use it once or twice a year, and only for camping trips within a few hours' drive, but it has become part of our camping essentials. It is easy to use, stays secure, and can hold a pretty decent amount of stuff. The zippers can be a bit tough to pull on at times, but they are really great, solid zippers, so I am on with that. The velcro is really good and strong as well.
It is easy to secure to our car (a 2014 Prius) and stays put. Sometimes you need to adjust one of the straps to stop it from whistling when you are zipping down the highway, but it's not a big deal.
Honestly, it is better than I thought it would be. When it is time for an upgrade, years down the road, I would buy another Rightline.

Katie: I loaded up my tiny little Yaris 2016 and never had enough room for all my camping stuff, and my dog. This is a game changer, now we can both go camping. What fun. This help up great, no tears yet, I drove two hours with it in total. Great material, stuff stayed dry, and on my car.
Con: The flaps that go into the window are really annoying because your air seal is removed so it can clip on. The whole entire drive all we heard was a loud wooooosh. Otherwise, I have no complaints.

Mandy: We traveled from mass to North Carlina, then to Florida, back to North Carolina then back to Mass... this was loaded and unloaded multiple times throughout our trip... We drive mostly 70+ MPH the whole way because it was all Highway... We hit insane torrential rain driving from NC to FL and the inside remained 100% dry... This held up through it all and upon arriving back from our trip we found no rips, tears or damage!! This is a great product and I'm very happy with the quality and price!! It also folds back up easily to fit inside the storage bag it came in!!

Tosha: This gear held up on a camping trip up north, a 5hour drive away. I was hesitant as I have never tried a rooftop car bag before. I didn't have tracks but the straps with clips that came with the bag easily fastened inside the car door frame. The bag didn't move on top of the car even with the uneven terrain and hills at higher speeds on the highways. The fabric is thick. It didn't downpour but there was light rain and everything stayed dry. The bag flaps over the zipper and velcros giving it extra dry protection. Overall I was impressed with this product initially being skeptacle of trying something new. The reviews helped me chose and I'm very happy with my purchase that I'll be able to use many more times.

Nes: We used this for a total drive of over 3500km and this thing is TOUGH. It didn't get any water in it and it held alot of camping gear. The one thing I will say though is do NOT use this on your vehicle if you do not have roof rack cross bars! Or if you do go that route do not pack it very heavily like we did. Our SUV that doesn't have cross bars nearly lit on fire from the pressure on the roof. There was electrical shorting and causing a ton of smoke in the car. So please use caution. Otherwise this thing is very durable.

JKSJKS: Bought the 15cu.ft bad for our Mazda 5. Took it for a tour with all our camping gear to the kootenays from Van. Isle. I don't have a roof rack so the bag was installed using the universal car clips. The bag didn't budge at all. and absolutely no issues with the straps getting loose. There was wind noise when driving at speed on the highway, but that's to be expected. Overall a very good experience for the first time out. I give it a 4 out of five so far as there has only been I full trip.

SCrandall: We used this on our Kia Sorento to drive from Missouri to Idaho and Montana and back again in February. It was raining and snowing and the wind was horrible but this thing kept ALL of our stuff safe, secure, and DRY. I was a little worried about it holding up for our whole trip, but we are 2 weeks into our 3 week trip and it has been great. Easy to take on and off at each stop we have made.

The bag is really stiff due to it being weather proof which makes it hard to get it all packed up in a taller car, but I will take it being stiff and slightly hard to pack over all of our stuff getting soaked anyway.

It sometimes made a funny noise, but I think the straps weren’t always tight enough and the weather was probably messing with it as well. It did drop our MPG, but that is to be expected with any car top carrier.

We are so thrilled with this product! For the price, it can’t really be beat. It has been a huge space (and life!)saver for our three week road trip with two toddlers. I highly recommend!

Rocky: I've used this on a Jeep Wrangler 4 door on 2 trips so far. Each trip was a 2 hour round trip. The cargo bag held up really well. It does get really warm inside the bag when the sun is out but it wasn't an issue for me. I don't have rails or a rack on my Jeep so I used this in conjunction with tie down straps that I found on Amazon as well - https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01DF3N3Q6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The straps would go around the bars that the Jeep grab handles are tied to and then the other loop end would hang out the door and that's what the straps for the cargo bag would connect to.
I was able to fit 4 pillows, 2 comforters, 2 bed sheets, 2 air mattress, 2 folding camping chairs and a tent in the 15cu ft. bag with plenty of room to spare.
I had no issues and didn't have to readjust the bag or the straps during the trip.
