It is a step up from the other collars as far as shock level. The collar does not go through the device but is held together in the device and joined by 2 small plastic studs. DO NOT PULL ON COLLAR IT WILL BREAK INTO. In all fairness i grabbed the dog when he lunged forward and the collar came out of transmitter.

Do not buy this collar! The mechanical part works fine but I bought the stubborn version because my lab is very hard on collars and when excited doesn't feel the normal ones.
The day after I bought this collar it fell apart. There are two little metal posts going through a tiny scrap of the end of the woven band to attach the mechanism and collar together. Well the woven strap tore away from the posts. Amazon replaced it for me saying it had great reviews and was probably just a fluke bad one.
I got my new one in, charged it overnight, and put it on my dash before work in the morning. By the time I got home 5 hours later the collar was gone. Luckily I found it laying in the middle of the yard. The same thing had happened! It just fell off in the middle of the yard!
I still need the stronger pulse so this time I got some zip ties and managed to rig something manageable. I'm very disappointed in the quality. For this much it should at least not just fall off.

The receiver itself is better than the original one that came with it. The collar system on the original receiver is better than the stubborn collar. So I have a german shepherd that ss extremely smart. The first collar wasn't enough and she would put her head out the fence and broke the whole system off the collar. I got this collar which was way better in performance. The collar straps are terrible. Two holes put in the ends of the collar but only about an 1/8 inch of material to support it. Found the dog outside my fence and collar by her house. Tried to fix the end that pulled out thinking it was a collar that went through the entire unit but it wasn't. Very little material to hold it on. Used the old collar and run the contacts through it. Hopefully it will hold this time.
