Michael Dekleva: The Redington 8 ft 4 wt has become my go-to rod for small stream fishing. it is a mid-flex rod, but the action is crisp and accurate. I enjoy being able to roll-cast effortlessly, which is more challenging with a faster action rod. In addition, the rod has the perfect action for playing fish; soft tip to protect tippet, but plenty of action to land fish quickly. I have more expensive rods, and they have their place. But for small stream fishing, or someone that simply wants to slow down the tempo of their casting stroke, the Redington CT is a great rod that just happens to be inexpensive.

scarson: I ordered the 8 foot 4-weight version of this rod a while back and since have taken it out several times to my favorite local spots. I have it paired with Redington's Zero reel (also recommended), which makes it quite a lightweight setup. The rod works precisely as advertised--the moderate-fast action isn't anything special, but it's as easy to cast as any other rod out there.

When I got the 480-4 model I was anticipating to use it mostly for dry flies. It being a 4-weight, this rod makes it easier to delicately present dries. But I've also found that this rod is suitable for pretty much any conventional trout fishing method. I've run some deep, heavy nymph rigs on this rod and had no trouble casting some lighter streamers. As an added benefit, 4wt line to me seems easier to mend. I might mention that due to the shorter 8' length (as opposed to the default 9') it felt substantially tougher to cast this rod beyond ~30-40ft. That's fine with me, but if you like to cast farther out I'd bump it up to a 9' rod. I'll also add that you're not losing a whole lot of fighting power on this rod. I've hooked a few fatties and it gets the job done. It's just light enough to make smaller...

Mermis Family: Well build rod and fun to use. Seems like this rod has slower action than most graphite rods which makes it a pleasure to use. The 3 wt is perfect for some of the smaller streams in my area and fighting small fish with this thing is actually fun.

Raoof Shlash: May be I was unlucky? I was casting a size 16 dry fly and the fly hit the tip of the rod and broke the tip!!!

John E.: I do not write many reviews. However, this rod was so great that I have to share my opinions!

To start off, I got the 8wt 9 footer. Primarily for a redfish trip coming up, but I have been using it to fish for bass (I know overkill) to get used to the rod. Anyways this rod is nothing short of perfection! It casts like a dream with no work at all! An easy double haul easily shoots 60+ feet of line with minimal effort. The rod is also great at short distance to and easily loads with very little line out (not typical of fast action rod). Performance wise the rod is great, loads of backbone for those big fights without feeling like a log. I could not be happier with the performance.

Secondly, maybe less important but still worth noting is the looks. THIS ROD IS BEAUTIFUL! A rich metallic blue blank with black wraps with electric blue highlights is simply stunning. The finish on this rod is great!

If you have a single second thought on this rod ignore it. This rod is fabulous and offered at a price that cannot be beat. I have cast plenty of rods 3-4 times as expensive and this rod is comparable. BUY. BUY. BUY.
