Fiction_Fan: Came with a small crack but I needed to use it so I didn't return. Disappointed, but it's still useable. Good for my plane stop and chiseling dovetails.

Andrew Gaboric: I have had this hammer for a couple of years not and it has held up very well! I few scuffs and marks on the hard plastic end but, no cracks or signs of damage. I bought this at the recommendation of Paul Sellers and am not disappointed.

Techie Bloke: It is a hammer, it has a handle and a heavy bit at one end. Why do you need one? Well I bought one cos I liked the look of it but it was really useful when a double glazed unit failed. Being a good DIYer and too tight to pay someone else I bought a chisel (think strong scraper) and removed the bead from my window and swapped out the glass. Here the Thor hammer comes into use - the face is hard but not metal hard, more plastic hard and is ideal to use when putting the beads in around the upvc window. A few taps and done, if I had used a normal metal faced hammer there would be dints on the bead. I have used the Thor hammer on a few other jobs but have never used the rubber end, only the plastic. Anyway it did the job and I didn't have to call a glazer to come and rip me off.

Michael Stewart: Bought this based on Paul Sellars videos. Smacks things with authority. I'm used to using a framing hammer, and my carpentry chisels show it. This shouldn't mutilate my fine woodworking chisels, and feels more familiar than a wooden mallet. Doesn't cost a lot to give it a try, either. My only quibble is with stickers all over the handle. Those need removed, and I ran a little steel wool over the finish--again, I'm used to a framing hammer. The size of the handle feels good to me. My hands aren't huge, but I like a robust grip.

The Very Angry Maker: Bought this hammer on the recommendation of Paul Sellers (well known fella in woodworking circles). I am very glad I did as I have tried normal hammers, fancy and expensive brass faced hammers, wood mallets and rubber mallets for striking my chisels with and while all worked none felt particularly right.
The Thor gives me exactly what I am looking for when doing chisel work. Depending on the cut I can chose my strike to be short and sharp by using the hard white plastic face or if I am looking to drive the chisel a bit deeper the grey rubber faced end really delivers the force.
Most of my chisel work is when I am creating dovetail joints and I have found that less of my pins or pieces are breaking with this hammer as opposed to the other hammers / mallets I was using and I suspect the grey faced rubber face has everything to do with this improvement. Both faces have also come in very handy as a excellent "persuader" for tight fitting joints again mostly being dovetails.
Built quality of the hammer appears to be good but really a whole lot I can say about it as it is after all a hammer with two faces... it feels well balanced in the hand and the chrome of the...

P. Murphy: I'm not going to lie, wielding this hammer will not grant you the power to send lightning bolts shooting through the sky...BUT it will provide you with perhaps one of the most well-designed dead-blow hammers on the market at a VERY reasonable price. As a bonus, I expect this hammer to last a lifetime--if not a couple.
Let's talk 'feel' for a second...the weight of this hammer is EXACTLY what you need for striking gouges, chisels, pin-setters, etc. The white and grey sides afford you the flexibility of striking with a hard or soft non-marring surface (white being soft, grey being hard), though both sides are considered to be soft-surfaces as compared to a traditional wooden or brass mallet. The beauty of a synthetic hammer face is that it will never splinter (when used properly) like wood, mar or dimple--like brass, and can be swapped out fairly easily if it is ever damaged. I should mention that a high-quality brass or wooden mallet are equally as durable though when treated with care and could also last for decades or more.
The dead-blow hammer is designed to provide solid impact with little effort and little kickback to the user. This hammer does both VERY well....

Timbo Slims: When I first saw this mallet being recommended by Paul Sellers, it immediately caught my attention. I have a number of mallets - wood, brass, non-marring, you name it - and really didn't need another mallet in my shop. But what impressed me about this mallet was the number of replaceable faces it comes with, Along with the number of sizes and configurations. I opted for the wooden handled version with the hard white face on one side, and the soft, non-marring grey face on the other. I did buy a couple other replacement faces (yellow and red face) in addition to the grey / white that come with the hammer. Note all the faces are made of nylon / plastic and are very durable.
Here is the data for each replaceable face type / color that I found on thorhammers.com:
- White - Hard Nylon - Shore Hardness D 57-61 - Best All purpose face for heavy and light assembly work.
- Brown - Tough Polyurethane - Shore Hardness D 58-62 - Tough and abrasive resistant. Ideal for striking sharp surfaces, including cutting forms, steel rule die assembly.
- Grey - Soft PVC - Shore Hardness A 63-731 - Will not mar finished surfaces. Ideal for flat pack furniture assembly, woodworking.
