I charged it overnight.. fully charged. I don't mind having to hold the button down to zap as I think it's a good safety feature. Anyhow, the first time I got a fly, there was a loud zap and the fly fell to the floor. Then after about two seconds he started singing "I get knocked down, but I get up again, You are never gonna keep me down!". So I was like whatevs and tried it again the next day and this time, again.. loud zap! but the fly didn't even flinched. Pretty sure he flipped me off as he flew by. I requested a return.

IbePiglet:
This things zaps so hard my dogs are scared!!! This is a very effective tool, worth the price for sure. Holds a charge (no batteries, yay!!!) and came with charging cord. The battery (lower part of the handle) can be unscrewed to charge if space is an issue but it can be charged fully assembled as well.
It has 2 flashlights which is handy. My only complaint is that the button you push and hold to zap is half way up the handle which diminishes your reach by quite a bit. It’s on the heavy side but that isn’t an issue for me. It could be for some though.
All in all I’m quite pleased.

G Fam. :
Update- it broke. The top of the racket works but doesn’t zap them half way down the racket.
I don’t always write reviews but when I do it’s great hehe.
The first time I hit a bug with this it scared me and I saw a flash before my eyes. It was so neat. Now when I walk I just move it in front of my face and it zaps all the bugs. Now I can be outside without annoying gnats in my face.
My kids thought it’d be funny to try it on themselves… natural selection… it definitely gave them quite the shock.

Ryan&Fam: UPDATE, had it few weeks. The battery life is lacking and it seems to still 'act charged' but then when you use it it struggles to kill the bug ON the screen itself! So that is frustrating. However when charged(we use it few times a day and needs to be charged about weekly to have the power it does fully charged) This thing has power. Upon Arrival: the only thing is sort of top heavy& the power button that has to be held On to use is 3/4 up the handle so it gives you a short length to reach bugs but its strong! It has a Very Bright light but the battery is on lower handle where flashlight so you can't use zapper without flashlight part making it heavy/oddly placed buttons& such to use.its not going to bend or break it feels steady/firmly made. Not cheep feel or look. Overall not bad, better then many but some odd things make it less then first thought & turned out to be one we returned for another brand, $1.00 less that has a longer battery & can sit while on too!

Amazon Customer: Awesome for taking down spiders and their web on the dock. Takes out unseen bugs sitting by the campfire. Good for nagging sweat bees. Flied a little harder to catch.
