Tinkerer: Seems very sturdy - and definitely fixed my problem. The float switch on my sump pump went out after less than 2 years. It just wouldn’t shut off until after the water was as low as the bottom of the sump pump and the pump always lost it’s prime. The new switch was easy to install on the sump pump’s pipe and I could easily set it to stop at the right level. I bet I’ll get several more years out of the old pump.

Premium Computer Systems: The switch on my 1/2 HP Drummond (Harbor Freight) pump failed in the CLOSED mode. The pump itself was still strong, so I just needed a switch. This switch has the On-Pipe bracket screwed to it, and the screw holes lined up OK with the on-pump bracket that was already on the pump. Thus, I was able to remove the on-pipe bracket, and install this switch in the same mode that the ORIGINAL was installed. Hopefully this switch will out-last the original one.

crabtrap: i have 2 sump crocks in larger basement. the contractor that installed the main sump crock made basin to shallow for the float type switch. it did its job mostly but the water level would sit at level of in-coming pipes, which is just below the basement floor level. anyway this vertial switch allows for better adjustment and 'margin of error' for water under house. it took 5min to install and allowed me to run the old pump till dead instead of dumping 200+ on a new pump while the old one is still usable. i will probably buy another for the other sump crock. WATER ALWAYS WINS....but id rather it fights in the backyard!

CK: Got this after the other comparable float switches (mechanical of similar design and even electrical) here on Amazon failed to stand the test of time in my sump basin. The mechanical alternative gets easily gummed up with sediment and the electrical variety stops conducting properly when that same sediment coats the sensors.

So far the switch seems extremely well built. The actuation has a very nice, solid click sound. The weightiness of the float is also extremely impressive in comparison to the alternatives. There's just nothing flimsy about the build quality, and I dig it.

Some of the reviews have complained that the float has too small of a travel window. I disagree. For one, the longer the plastic rod is the more subject it is to becoming warped over time, which could interfere with activation/deactivation. In my opinion the window could be even smaller, as I need a pretty short cycle for my overall system to work optimally.

Additionally, there's no harm in running a short cycle on the pump. If you take the time to tune your system correctly (and install a quiet check valve), it should be fairly quiet and unobtrusive.

Geoff: This Replacement float switch is a good replacement for any sump pump with Piggy Back style float switch. You can tell if you pump has a piggy back float switch by examining the power plug for your pump at your electrical outlet. If you have one plug that has another plug directly attached into the first one you should be able to use this float switch.

Installation was easy. If you have a screw driver & patience its definitely in anyone's capability. Simply loosen the metal clamp, attach at the desired height around your existing pipe and tighten down the clamp. Plug your new switch in FIRST, followed by your existing sump pump into the female plug on your new float switch's power plug.

Plug is rated for up to 10 amps so I would recommend not to exceed 1/2 HP sump pump.

Switch has been working flawlessly for 1 month so far.
