A Husband/Dad who cares: Honestly, there are several things he says that I don't think he gave full thought to. But overall, and especially with chapter 6, this book is right on and so helpful for all of us to change our way of thinking about how to look at God.

If nothing else, just read chapter 6. Amazing! He deals with all the very difficult things that we often wrestle with when trying to understand God's justice. And then he points out the fact that we have actually committed cosmic high treason against the almighty God of everything. And that he constantly shows us all Mercy, yet we take that Mercy for granted.

And that God, who needs nothing from us, is the one Who became a man to live perfectly in our place and die in our place to defeat death and forgive us so that we could have intimacy with Him now and forever, when all we deserve is righteous punishment forever. How amazing!

Frank A Evans (Brisbane Australia): Nothing flashy, just a plain “bangers and mash,” bread and butter look at the Holiness of God - meaning the subject is within reach of the ordinary layperson reader.

Holly: R.C. Sproul was one of the greatest theologians of our time. All Christians must read this book! Full of biblical truth.

Ashley Latimer: Most people in our day have a low view of God this book will help anyone who wants an accurate view of God and is seeking to worship Him in truth and in accordance with who He truly is

Penguin: I cannot rate this book more highly. It is theology with accessibility. Dr. Sproul laboured in love to get the points across with unusual clarity without compromising precision. He covers profound concepts without straining our brain. He carries reader along without losing us on the threads of his thoughts, which always hit home with truths. In fact, he rightly proves his points - that no one can be bored when he is having an encounter with God. This is what this book achieves for us - an encounter with God - and it is most captivating!

Dr. Sproul does not shy away from difficult passages in the bible. He is a great teacher. Like Paul, he predicts what questions people would ask, asks them for us and answers them. We realise that why we find those questions so difficult to accept is because we have a wrong concept of God. He skilfully breaks down our preconceptions and exposes our sinful nature! Ouch! Then he shows us the holiness of God.

This topic is significant as I agree that the holiness of God is often misrepresented and/or misunderstood. Today's churches may care more about making God accessible than manifesting His holiness. If I may say so, sacred place and...

Randy A. Stadt: Consider the following two scenarios. In the first, a pastor in an Evangelical church sings the entire song of Ariel, from the Disney movie “The Little Mermaid”, during a sermon in order to make a point. As he sings along, word for word, with the soundtrack playing through the speakers, the audience howls with laughter. Or a second scenario, where a Christian school enthusiastically shows a video of a short play to its entire assembly of students, in which a boy playing God the Father talks to the angels in heaven about how he is going to send Jesus into the world.

So what’s the problem? The problem is not so much in what was done, but in what was omitted. It seems that Evangelicalism has become so comfortable in the presence of God because, after all, we do now have access through Jesus Christ, that we are setting ourselves up for distortions which have the potential of actually, through sheer trivialization, changing our understanding of the gospel itself into something foreign to the pages of Scripture.

We certainly do have access, because of Christ, into the presence of the Father, and the apostle Paul does encourage us to enter boldly into His presence....

Mike: With this being the first book I've read by R.C. Sproul, I wasn't sure what to expect. I knew Sproul to be reformed as well as a well respected theologian. I stumbled across this book after listening to a call in talk-radio program. The caller was unsure of his salvation because he was living a life of sin. He wanted so badly to turn from his sins, but didn't feel he had the strength or capacity to do so. I was expecting the talk-show host to recommend a book on sexual addiction or something, but I was surprised to see that he recommended a book on God's Holiness. I was quite shocked. I was so accustomed to preachers telling me to focus on God's love and Grace when we are consumed in sin and want out. I had only heard the extremists who preach "fire and brimstone" talk about God's Holiness. Rarely had I heard God's Holiness preached from the pulpit. I had always heard it mentioned, but never preached.

Because I had never read anything by Sproul, I was expecting to read a condemning book by a dry theologian. I always carried the impression that those who preach about God's Holiness weren't real, honest people. This is because everyone lives a screwed up life, consumed in...
