Marika Clymer: I know a lot of people who have refused to use patches to quit smoking - speaking for myself in the past. But as a smoker of 12 years, pack-a-day for the past 2: I *could not* have quit without nicotine patches. Nicotine patches take away any physiological craving for nicotine, and at that point you are just dealing with impulse control, and restructuring your habitual routines & rituals around smoking. It also takes away any irritability associated with nicotine withdrawal.
These patches: Never buy Nicorette or whatever the other brand names are! These patches are half the price, come with twice the patches, and are just as effective. Each box is a 2 week supply, opposed to the other brands that only have 1 week. The only downside to these patches specifically is they are not quite as adhesive as the Nicorette patches. I recommend just getting a box of large bandaids and putting one over the patch if you notice it consistently falling off.
I’ve been smoke free for a bit over a month, and I don’t hardly ever put on patches anymore. My recommendation - stick to the suggested steps outlined in the directions. I only needed to be at 21mg for 1 month (step 1) and...

Y&.: I've had to forego using patches in the past because of violent skin reactions to the adhesive. I took a chance on these because of the reviews saying they were gentler on the skin. I'm 3 weeks in and have only had a reaction to 1 patch, and I suspect it had more to do with placement than the individual patch. Seems like the less fat barrier I have on an area of my body, the more likely I am to react. Not sure if there is any science behind that, but that's how it's working for me.
I have had to throw away 2 patches in 3 weeks because they would only stick for a couple of hours. For the price, this is a good trade-off (smaller price, less irritation, occasionally have to use extra).

Steven J. Stortz: I like these nicotine patches because they curb my urge to pick up a cigarette.
I quit for a while and had recently begun to smoke a few a day.
I have ZERO desire to smoke when I’m wearing a patch. I like that.
These are making quitting again a little easier!
