john a bivens: I really like these filters for 2 reason's once the power goes out it'll start right back up another I don't use carbon so I can cut filter material and slide it right into the cartridge holder only con not enough room to put in a sponge but I did put in a pre-filter sponge on the intake tube. Great filter 👌

Theresa: We installed the filter and it worked fine; however, it was not quiet. After two weeks the motor became very loud. We contacted an Amazon representative who was very helpful and requested a replacement for us. We received it in two and half days, and it appears to be working fine. Plus, much quieter than the first one.

S Ravello: It was quiet upon setup then I decided the flow was too strong for my long finned fish, she was struggling. So I moved it to another tank for my fish that love the stronger flow. It was then very noisy. I checked the impeller and don't see anything wrong. I was careful with it when I moved it. No idea what I'm doing wrong or what I did. It seems finicky to suddenly get so noisy when I was very careful with it. I used it for a day then got another tetra whisper filter to use instead.

Nolan S: Let me start by saying I ordered one and out of the box initial setup it was loud making a grinding noise. I immediately knew something was faulty. I started a replacement request and got a new perfect filter very quick. And this new one is QUIET.

The only part I can hear making noise is the water hitting the surface which is already pretty quiet. You can lower this sound even more by raising your water level or adding filter floss at the exit of the filter.

This filter is a top 3 pick. Aqueon makes good quality products. You won’t be disappointed.

Cristina: Aqueon QUIETFLOW indeed! The filter itself makes NO sound. My laptop makes more sound than this thing. I can't hear it at all. I have 29gal tank in my bedroom about 4ft from the bed and I sleep like a baby.
The only time I've heard any sounds coming from my tank is when the water level has gotten a little low and then I can hear a light water trickling sound as the water output falls to the surface of the water in the tank. Other than that it's silent as can be. The filter itself is nice and strong, keeps my tank nice and clear. My only concern was that the slits on the filter intake are a little long so I was concerned of my fish or snail getting a fin or a tentacle sucked in. I haven't seen anything happen, but I didn't want to wait for an accident to occur so I made sure to buy a pre-filter to put over it. So far my aquatic friends are all very happy, and they can swim right up to the filter and not have any problems with the current or flow.

Michael T. Callihan: I replaced a 9 year old unit of the same device (minus the new LED filter replacement indicator feature) because the old one was getting loud which I recalled was a sign of approaching failure. Plus I didn't care for the noise. Installing this one was simple - I even just moved the current biofilter and bracket from the old one to preserve the good bacteria. Its width is exactly the same as the old unit so it dropped right in to the same spot. However, when I turned it on, I feared I had made a terrible mistake - or that I had received a defective one. It made a terrible grinding noise. I actually went and took the old filter motor apart to clean it since I expected I'd be putting it back on the tank and filing a return request. By the time I was done with that clean up, the new filter's noise level had dropped considerably. By the next morning, it was almost whisper quiet as promised. So my advice is: don't judge the noise level by what you hear right away when you turn it on. Give it a few hours to settle in. Also, the LED filter replacement indicator feature is completely removable if you find you don't care for it. The filter operates whether the LED module is plugged in or...

Coverdale: Great filter, I have two Quiet Flow 30's on two 20 gallon tanks. Over filtered yes but the fish I keep like the water movement. As other reviewers have mentioned the Fluval prefilter is a perfect fit and increases bio-filtration and is highly recommended, the prefilled will also keep smaller fish safe from the powerful intake. The carbon cartridges should only be used to remove medication or initial tank setup. I recommend removing the floss and carbon from a used cartridge, save the frame and wrap it with poly quilt batting. The poly batting is super cheap and works excellent. Another tip, just where the inlet pumps water into the filter there is an empty void I filled with bio balls, fits about 20 Marineland bio balls, doesn't restrict flow one bit and provides even more bio filtration. Another really great aspect of this filter is the "difuser" at the water return, this does all the oxygenation needed if you do not like a bubble stone. I don't and have run this filter for years with very happy fish!
