G. Kelly EvansG. Kelly Evans: I bought this litter scoop to replace a much older version of the same scoop. My older one has lasted me at least 10 years and was sold by Van Ness (it's the same scoop, just sold under different names). The scoop comes in 3 sizes: regular or standard, giant, and extra giant. The giant and extra giant have the 6" wide tray. The only difference between the two is the extra giant size has a longer handle. The scoops have no branding written on them except on the inside of the handle, where they have "LS1", "LS2", or "LS3" which correspond to standard, giant, or extra giant respectively. Mine says "LS2". It's the only plastic scoop I can find with a 6" wide scooping "tray" that has narrow slits. That wide opening and the narrow slits make it much easier and less time consuming to clean a large litter box filled with sandy type clumping litter; however, this newer version is made of a MUCH thinner plastic than the older version. The entire scoop feels way flimsier than the older version because of the thinner plastic. I would definitely not recommend this scoop for that reason. Atrjw800: I thought getting a bigger scoop would be more convenient as I have a larger sized litter box, so I would have to do less scooping out of my cat's output. That's the good part; the wider and larger size does assist in getting more out of the litter box. The bad part is that the quality of the plastic material just isn't as good. While I've not had the handle problems as some have discussed here, mine has to do with the plastic edges at the edge cracking from scooping. It doesn't take too kindly to the denser, thicker clumps. And as I found out, trying to chop it up into smaller pieces or firmly digging into the litter with the scoop caused it to crack. Also, as some have said, the spaces between the meshes are a little too wide, so smaller clumps will still go through it.

I went back to using my smaller scoop; it's a minor inconvenience but does the job more effectively and can handle the wear and tear of the bigger clumps without breaking.

Desert Denizen: I love this scoop! Well, as much as one can love a piece of plastic that lives for cleaning litter. My current litter is Tidy Cats Instant Action clumping litter and the spacing of the slots allows the clean litter to flow through quickly. (The last scoop I bought was a metal one from that big W store and it looked great, but the slots were slightly narrower than on this one and I had to go really slowly for the litter to pass through.) I have 2 litter boxes and 2 of these giant scoops and after the first full year of use, neither of them has broken. The plastic might weaken in time, but so far so good.

Roberta Rankin: Couldn't see how I could go wrong given the selling price. I was right! Although many reviewed it as being almost too large, it is very close in size to the scoops I have always bought, so am happy with the size. The size of the slits works just fine for the type of cat litter I use (name-brand clumping). One negative I have, which is small, is that the back side of the handle is a little sharp - not that it would cut one, but just uncomfortable. Again, though, for the price it's a minor inconvenience for a short period. (Because how long does it take to scoop, shake and empty the scoop.)

A small positive: the label/sticker comes off without much effort nor does it leave residue on the scoop. This has always been a pet-peeve as most stickers leave a sticky residue when attempting to remove, and it makes a mess when used as the litter sticks to it. Ok..a minor issue, but at least this scoop doesn't have that issue. Hooray!

Martin A Hogan: This may be a simple kitty litter scoop, but it’s perfectly sized and not expensive. The grooves are perfectly spaced to collect litter and the edge is great for scraping the sides of the kitty litter box when the ‘stuff’ gets stuck. I have a roll-over style kitty litter box, but occasionally I pull this out and use out to completely scrape the sides of the box to make sure the wet areas are cleaned off. I also use it when cat sitters come over, as most don’t like the new fashioned way of a roll-over box. Watch out for Amazon ‘Add-On’ kitty litter scoops. They may be cheap but you have to order something along with it to get that deal.
