Have used this particular timer in the past and been very satisfied with it. Noticed that it had mixed reviews but purchased it anyway. The big mistake. It did not work after installation. Too much slop in the shaft area. Could not set the time. It's been cheapened (mostly plastic) in the last few years. It's gone from a very easy to set and useful switch to a piece of junk. The main reason I bought one this time was to replace an existing unit that no longer work and I wanted to use the same wallplate. Wound up getting a digital timer and a different wallplate. I would not recommend buying this particular Intermatic timer anymore. I won't. Didn't bother to take the time and effort to return it. Simply threw it away.

These intermatic timers are easy to use and usually last several years. I have two of them for two outdoor lights which light up the entire front yard and walkways. I saw that one of your customers was upset at the fact that it is difficult to find these in the regular hardware, suppermarkets, and other as they now either don't carry them or prefer another (and more expensive) brand. I agree with that assessment. But the solution is to get these items through Amazon.com. And, at least in some cases, the item might be even cheaper than buying it locally, including S & H. The last time I bought one of these at the local Home Depot (there's only major hardware on Cape Cod)it was $25. This one cost me $22 everything included. The main problem with Intermatic is the installation. I always have to call a handyman to do that for us. As you can guess, I am not a handy person but I'm a great gardener!!! Sometimes the Internatic brand breaks down after a couple of years but they can last for 5 years and more if you're lucky

Call me an old fuddy-duddy, but I'm sick of everything having to be digital! I have manual timers on a couple of other switches in the house, so when I wanted one more, I went to two different home centers and a hardware store - nothing available except digital. So I bought a digital GE one, took me forever to program it, then after about 3 months - like so many things digital - it died.
I finally found this one on Amazon, and it's perfect. It installed easily, and contrary to what some other reviewers said, I found the programming to be a snap. The instructions were clear and easy to follow, and I set my start and stop times with no problem. And that's exactly what I wanted - a timer that turns my porch light on and off - not one that knows the phase of the moon in Tibet and the train schedules in Siberia and whatever else manufacturers try and cram into digital products these days.
Fast shipping, a good price, easy to install, easy to program, and works exactly like it's supposed to. What more can you ask from a product? Definitely five stars, and thank you Amazon for continuing to carry products like these when the retailers have all gone...

I have been using two of these for close to 20 years. One controls the light over our front door, the other the light on our detached garage. One recently failed so I replaced it. You can't find these at Home Depot, etc. so I was happy to find in at Amazon.
Pros-
Fits over the switch plate. The front door light switch is one of four with a brass cover plate, so this unit easily adapts. In the garage, the plate has a switch and an outlet - again the unit adapts. So it's perfect for an older house. Easy to install.
Once you get the hang of it - easy to program. If there is a power outage or the bulb(s) burn out, you have to re-program. I used to keep the instructions at hand but know I know the drill.
Compared to a digital unit, it's easy to program.
Makes your house look lived in and saves power by turning the light off.
Cons-
A little on the ugly side, but not an eyesore.
Does not work with compact fluorescent bulbs - incandescent only!

A little difficult to set the timer,but once set,works well. Not 100% accurate with keeping exact time,loses a few minutes a day (not terrible). Very simple to install though and I am NOT handy.
