ks: WARNING. Stay away from Poulan products! It sounds like it's a dying product line. Here's what happened: Product only worked for a couple of runs and then couldnt stay on or get started again. Bad parts or settings I assume. Either way, they tell you once you put gasoline in, you can't return it, you have to call their Customer Service. You call it and they tell you they no longer have a customer service dept to help you, but they have a map on their website with a list of all the service shops that will service it for you. Except every single one i called within 100 miles of my address (that was dozens of shops by the way listed on their site), none of them would do warranty work (and you can tell they were staying away from Poulan products). So you've got a paperweight basically that ifyou want fixed right out of the package you have to pay for it (which is what i had to do). Amazon can't take it as a return, and no one does Warranty work. What a rip. And when i sent in a ticket for someone at Husqvarna to escalate, i get remote call center people who can't do anyting to help me but escalate and from there it got ignored. no one ever emailed me or...

Amazon Customer: When my Husqvarna wouldn't run right I borrowed one of these from a friend. It cut so well I ordered one. I had imagined an 18" saw for under $150 would be crap but this saw proved me wrong. It performs well and for that low price also came with a case and extra chain! Highly recommended!

Amazon Customer: I've been running this saw for two seasons.
Dropped, limbed and bucked ~100 trees and 1 lorax

Inexpensive saw and parts compared to pro saws.
Much lighter than a pro saw, important if slinging around all day.
It adequately chews through wood, though slower than pro. Also applies to the operator when tired from the aforementioned slinging all day. Wear protection. It is NOT bottom tier gutless, more like mid tier still going to mess you up.

I've need to replace the safety bar (broken on arrival, amazon reimbursed so can't complain) and safety mech do to my misuse/overuse of halting chain before moving positions:

I also have purchase a spare clutch bell/drive sprocket do to wear on the sprocket for chain skipping. It will happen, chains lengthen from use and heat, tension vigilance is a must regardless of saw manufacturer.

Bar and chain replacements are cheap too... I grab spares on sale at princess auto.

jessica hinkle: We have had many chainsaws as well as brands throughout our life. Got this one because other" much" older polan
had drawed its last breathe so to speak. Was on a very tight budget , wasn't planning on having to buy a new one this year but life had other plans I guess. Had went to several brick and mortar stores looking at different brands as well as polan but was not in budget. Ran across this one and figured well it'll do for now. Well it surprised because one what I paid and two its performance is awesome. We cut firewood and we probably won't have to purchase another chainsaw for many seasons. It is good quality, it runs great and cuts excellent.

David A. Tomlinson: The saw itself started with little difficulty and worked fine. The case is on the light (cheap side). The zip tie had pulled through the "look" tab. The case has two chain bar openings with a plug for one. I don't know how that could possibly be useful for anything. The case material is definitely lighter than my older Poulan Pro 220 16" case. I guess it will work,,,maybe. The saw itself is a bit lighter than the older Poulan Pro 220 as well. That makes it somewhat easier to use, though. It came with a replacement Oregon chain and some oil. Pretty good for 150 bucks. I don't use a chainsaw but once or twice a year usually. I did some carb work on it and now it is also back running. It's been 20+ years in use. I'm 69. I should be set for the rest of my useful life. :-)

Jolly ChalieJolly Chalie: I Have Had Many Of These. I Think The {PR} 4218 is Better than the Previous {PP} 4218.

I Read A Lot Of Bad Reviews, Saying Stuff Like They Are Hard To Crank.

I Haven't Had That Experience. Use Only Non-Ethanol Gas On Any Chainsaw and Only Use Poulan Pro Bar and Chain Oil, (Not Just Poulan, but Poulan Pro Bar And Chain Oil ~ Poulan Pro 952030204 Bar and Chain Oil - Save Money By Buying It By The Gallon $18.46)

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005K8Y0X0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Also Only Use Poulan Pro Oil For the Gas Mixture. It Says that I Can Run On a 50:1 Gas / Oil Mixture, but I Run Mine A Little Richer, (Because The Older PP Model Said To Run It On a 40:1 Gas / Oil Mixture) and The Chainsaw Lasts Longer Years With A Little Richer Mix, (Even If It Says That With the Synthetic Oil You Can Run It at 50:1 Gas / Oil Mixture). I'm Not a Big Fan Of Synthetic Oil, So I Find The Original Poulan Pro Poulan WeedEater 40:1 And I Use That Instead of the Synthetic Oil 50:1 Gal / Oil Mixture.

Then Follow The Instructions Written Right On the Chainsaw. It Said To Pump the Gas 10 Times, {On the PP Models},...

Candice Lukaszewicz: Normally I don't do reviews, but after my experience with this chainsaw, I felt a true need to give a review. First, I am a guy (using my wifes account) that is reasonably experienced with two strokes and messing around with carb's (have owned dirtbikes for many years...). This is my first chainsaw I will admit, tho. For reference, I am in Calgary, AB, Canada and the temps have been around +10C (for elevation and temp tuning reference).

Received the chainsaw, put fresh gas in and mixed with 50:1, bar oil, etc. Start per the procedure, and it did start, but it would idle REALLY high and the chain would be moving. No big deal, use the idle adjustment and turn it out >> no effect.

Ok, it probably needs a Low speed adjustment. Well you need a special splined tool. Since i don't wanna cut a slot for flathead just yet, i'll call Poulan and see if it can be adjusted under warranty (with someone who has the tool). Drive to the local chain saw shop. Their service guy messes around for 15 min and can't get it to run period (weird since i can get it to run with some choke adjustments). They say it will need a new carburetor (kinda thinking this is bs and...

Pierre Benoit: I like everything about this saw. Did not realized that this saw has the Inertia chainsaw brake. So I was pretty happy with it. Love the hard case and extra chain that came with it.
It is not the top of the line and I understand this but, it does what I need it to do.
Clear brushes , cut small to medium-size and the few larger tree needed to do the job.

Frank J. Hack: Take due diligence before adding any fluids. Get upgraded chain from reputable chain sharpening service and have them go over entire unit BEFORE ANY FLUID!!!!
That will be worth much.
With new chain this unit is very (for lack of words) deceptive.
Enjoy.

Amazon Customer: Chainsaw is very reliable. Starts easily and cuts well, up to 5-' plus trees with 15" diameters. It also came with a really good, hard plastic case. Very handy for keeping related items with the saw (e.g. 2 stroke oil, chainsaw oil). It also came with a spare chain, which was a pleasant surprise. Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase.
