I have used it for skinning and gutting goats, lambs, pigs, chickens, ducks, and turkeys. The best thing about it? It is always sharp. Very sharp! I've cut myself more then a few times because I wasn't careful, but that is my fault, not the knife's. Great for cutting throats on poultry, very easy to hit the mark. This works wonders for skinning animals. I can get a large goat skinned in 20 minutes with a new blade. It's lightweight and has a nice feel to it, easy to maneuver. It is quick and easy to change the blade. Do use pliers when changing the blade though! I wouldn't change a thing about nor even consider using another knife.

Dante Seymore: Product:
Fantastic knife for light cutting. I've one of these knives for the past two hunting seasons. Made cleaning and harvesting my animals a very easy chore.

Unfortunately I end up losing them at the end of the season and purchased a replacement for last year. I just received the most recent one and the seller seems to have sent me a returned product. It wasn't in the original package nor did it have the spare blades as advertised. Also, the blade was used and dirty with the handle being packed with dried blood, fur and other biological matter. Looks like whomever used it before me barely rinsed it off before sending it back. Needless to say, I'm sending this one back and will purchase it elsewhere. I'm oddly angered about the fact that I received a used product that could potentially be hazardous in a different level. I have no way of knowing what kind of blood, hair and meat is in the knife. It could be human for all i know. This would look horrible for the seller and Amazon if its evidence in a crime and they've shipped it to me.

NYC Amazon Shopper: After seeing guys like Steve Rinella to other famous hunters use it, I got it for myself.
This is essentially a scalpel. Very sharp and easily for surgical precision.
Field dressing a deer: very sharp and I found myself at first overly careful (rightly so) of holding and using the knife. It cut effortlessly through the first layer of hide/skin/fur. Because it was so sharp, I was able to easily control how deep into the fur vs fat layer vs muscle groups. It easily dislodged the rectal area as well as the diaphragm. Also it cut out the esophagus without much effort. I DID NOT use it to cut through the rib-cage. I instead used a heavier, sharp hunting knife, as I was worried the thin Havalon would break trying to cut through bony areas.
One of the things that a real surgeon, who was on the hunt with me advised me was not to use the point so much, but rather use the long, flat edge of the blade. Let the blade do the work, not the tip point.
Also used the same blade the next day to skin and butcher much of the deer. Very easy to use when skinning the deer. Useful for cutting through layers of fat and tendon. I used a boning knife to debone.
I tossed...

Larry Addington: Thanks to "Meat Hunter" series I decided to give these a try. Very, very glad I did. I used them to skin and dress deer and wild hogs last season and was amazed with the sharpness and durability of the blades. I Have been using high quality custom made knives for years and loved that they stayed sharp for 3 to 5 deer. Using a sharp knife makes a world of difference in time it takes to skin and process game. This thing just kept skinning and skinning pigs and deer without changing blades. Everyone at the hunt camp asked to borrow it and loved it. One of the guys finally broke the first blade disassembling a knee joint. At least five of the guys I hunt with subsequently purchased their own Havalon Bolt knife. Blades are cheap, it comes with 12 additional blades. This is plenty to last you and your buddies for a season.

MSC: I have used this knife for a couple months now. Wasn't sure about the replaceable blade thing , but I gave it a try. This knife is sturdy and sharp as hell. Has done everything I have asked of it. I bought 2 packs of replacement blades because I was not sure how long they would last. i will have blades for the rest of my life , lol. The blades last a long time and I use this knife a lot . On the farm, in a store I own opening boxes, just life in general and it doesn't disappoint . I will definitely put a new blade for deer season but know this will make short work of field dressing and skinning, except bones of course. Well worth the money.
