The PIONEER VSX-LX303 9.2 Channel 4k UltraHD Network A/V Receiver Black is the perfect choice for those who are looking for the best value, build quality, compatibility and connectivity. With built-in Dolby Atmos, you can experience 3D surround sound and the Chromecast feature lets you control the audio from any device, anywhere in the house. The intuitive rotary controls make it easy to use. Andrew Tyler Vaughn: It's not bad. For a cheap 4K receiver it's not bad at all, but it lacks some features I thought would be absolutely required in this age...
For one: if you listen to a stereo source, you can't use the subwoofers unless you activate one of the surround audio processing modes. Not the worst deal, but the way it prioritizes bass is absolutely nonsensical. In big, booming, Dolby-encoded movies, it's perfect, but anything else and it lacks impact.
2: no simple on-the-fly adjustments. If you want to boost bass temporarily? You must navigate into the setup menu, go to the setup screen, select the subwoofer, pick a random higher number and hope it works, then exit out and listen. If it's bad, do it all over again until it works, then go back and reset it so your movies still sound good. You can't always tell if the Dolby height speaker is actually working at any given moment, even when you know it was mixed for it. No simple, "all speaker no processing" modes either. I "upgraded" from a Yamaha RX-V675 and haven't been pleased by the lack of options. A few button clicks on the Yamaha and anything sounded good. This one? You get what it comes with, and nothing more.

Paul David: Good overall. A little bit outdated in terms of features. Ex.: AirPlay (not AirPlay2)

Birdman: My new surround system is 7.1.2 (a normal 7.1 system with two speakers in the ceiling for Atmos). This receiver with 9 power amplifiers built in, can decode and power all those speakers. Holy cow...Atmos is AWESOME! The auto-calibrate works great. Just hook everything up, go into the menu to tell the receiver what speaker arrangement you are using, hook up the mic, put it in your seating position and hit go. The MCACC system does the rest. It beeps and toots for 10 minutes and presto! Calibrated to your room! It has tons of inputs, handles 4K HDMI, analog, even has a phono (turntable) pre-amp. I love that fact that you can go into the menu and turn off the display for the inputs you aren't using, so when you are selecting a source, you don't have to scroll through 12 things that aren't there.
I do have a couple complaints...it is a little underpowered and if I had the chance to do it again, I might get the next one up. I have Klipsch speakers which are really efficient, so this one gets plenty loud for me, but if you don't have very efficient speakers, you will possibly need more power. Nine power amps is a lot to pack into a receiver.
It gets pretty warm when...

A M: I love this new receiver. You can't find a 9.2 receiver for less money. I initially wanted to get a Sony. But the only model was about $2,000.
The sound quality is good. Really, this depends on your speakers more than anything. It has enough inputs for all my devices (I have five devices and occasionally a sixth. Plus I use my Smart TV and sometimes stream from AirPlay). My only complaint is when switching to ARC, it sometimes has trouble finding it. So I have to turn the receiver off and on again to get sound. Doesn't do this with the HDMI input, nor the analog inputs. And it doesn't happen all the time.
It "talks to my TV" okay. If I turn the tv on or off, the receiver will also turn on/off. But not the other way around. If I turn on the receiver, the TV does not follow. Convenient if you also listen to the radio or music. However a Sony Receiver and TV do communicate with each other a little better.
Also, be aware that the chromecast inside is an audio only one. It is not for video. But that is fine, my TV has a video one built in. But when casting audio, it does show the track info and album artwork on the TV screen.
I do not use Zone 2...
