Sunny: First and foremost, I am floored by reading the books written by Dr. Nivedia Lakhera. They are not only inspirational but one of the finest reads that have taken my breath away. From the personalization in the poems to the artwork that coincides along with the sentiment touches you in more than you can imagine. Subsequent to me reading I offered them to my family, my parents, and kids specifically, and seeing their reactions was priceless. I personally, read a lot of books, but in my reads I have yet to encounter something so genuine with such a personal touch. I am grateful to Dr. Lakhera, to have provided such an enlightenment and perspective. My recommendation is that one should read such exemplary piece of work at least once in their life, if not repeatedly from time to time, to get inspiration that life is more than me and us. ST: So my plan to read just one poem and move on with my day failed miserably as I ended up reading the whole book in one sitting! (And yes, I'm grateful to have the opportunity to read a book in one sitting and will be returning to read this again.) This is a beautifully written and extremely brave, raw collection of poems. It takes courage to be this open with the world. The letters to the readers between each section were just as touching as the poems. A line in the last letter to the reader pretty much sums it up for me..."...an attempt to sit next to your heart, and to have a conversation with your feelings; feelings that you have locked away in the cold recesses of your soul because of silly or sincere fears".

Anonymous: Love this book Bc it truly speaks to the soul. This author has a lot of thoughtful poetry for those who have ever been broken and need of healing. She shows how powerful a pen and paper and a voice is in the healing process. Her artistry and her words together tell a profound message that should be required reading for every med student resident or fellow in training in the medical world and that those even not in medicine could do well to hear. Truly her books are books of compassion and empathy, of heartbreak and healing, of letting our souls set free. She is the doctor, the writer, the poet, the artist, and the friend we all need in our lives. Her words show a high level of emotional intelligence and the power of healing and letting go of what has pained us in the past to let us flourish in the future. In life we realize only we can truly hold us back. People can take away things that are external from us but they cannot take our spirit away unless we allow them. Nivedita and her ‘Pillow of Dreams’ came into my world like a lot of wonderfully serendipitous things that happen in life, when you are least expecting it, when most needed and by error!
The last year has been an eye opening sociopolitical roller coaster for most of us “sane” and progressive ones. The scale of sexism, bigotry and misogyny thrown in our faces as no longer vestiges of the past but alive and thriving - woven into the fabric of society. Add to that a chaotic, challenging personal life and you start questioning the very make of your thoughts and assumptions about humanity and decency. So one fine day, looking to escape, while scouring through Facebook for a woman who my friend mentioned does international medicine, I added Nivedita by mistake.
